The events that take place every Thursday in the well-appointed upstairs room at the Royal Oak in Station Street, Lewes, East Sussex are intended to encourage the performance of traditional music and song. We operate throughout the year apart from August.
This is not a club as such; there is no membership, rather a number of like minds who come together to celebrate and enjoy a range of musical traditions in a convivial, socially conducive atmosphere. We believe that we try to make all newcomers feel welcome.
Guest artists are booked to appear virtually every week; we do have a very few 'Open Nights' during the year. Within our limited financial resources, we try to present artists from a range of musical backgrounds and experiences who are talented and display a love of their chosen music or styles. When we have guest artists, there is a cover charge on the door that reflects the status and fees of the artists. However, we do try to run our non-guest nights on a "Free Admission" basis. All the money that we take is used to book the best variety of guest artists that we can afford. We are not subsidised in any way by commercial sponsorship, arts organisation or local council grant The organisers bear the running costs of the venture themselves in the belief that they get more out of it than they put in.
For visitors to the town, we are easily found. From the train station, turn right out of the main exit from the station and go up Station Street. The main crossroads in the town is where Station Street crosses the High Street where buses arrive. The large train station car park is free after 7.30pm.

Many years ago I seem to remember coming to the first two shows ever at the Royal Oak, I believe Wilbury jam was the guest band, and I met a gorgeous young Lady whilst there, fond memories of an otherwise interesting holiday with parents, must be about 1979 !!

Many thanks for our evening at the Royal Oak this week !! We both enjoyed ourselves immensely, and it was a privilege to have the chance of performing our show for Royal Oak attendees. Regards, Irene

Just a quick update for you on the goings on of the Mostly Toast world..
The studio in The Northern Quarter is now fully up and running. We are going to open the studio up to singer songwriters every Saturday for what we are calling our "fastrack" service. It's like a drop in centre for musicians to get a song recorded, all for just £20!! Check the blog for more details....
The Mostly Acoustic gigs down at Nexus and the monthly Mostly Toast nights at The Green Windmill are going really well. We've had some amazing musicians playing some great music.
Box Kid (http://www. myspace. com/boxkidband) are still in the studio but the recordings are sounding great and we're really looking forward to getting them mixed, mastered and released!!
To Sophia ( http://www. myspace. com/tosophia ) have already finished their recordings and have an album launch night sometime soon!! They will also be launching a new website in the very near future too!!
We have also embarked on a new project called The Mostly Toast Musicians Co-Operative. Members will receive a range of benefits including 10% discount on all studio bookings, help finding gigs and monthly workshops on a variety of different topics from guest speakers.
