Royal Roost is an important convergence of musicians and songwriters from New York's ska/reggae scene. The group features saxophonists and composers Matthew and Daniel Voss, drummer Glenn Hackett, bassist Tom McGee, organist Ben Klingberg, guitarist Scott Rath and Jay Hackett. Royal Roost is something of an already-arrived success, the members having been a part of the scene for over 18 years (The Scofflaws, The Bluebeats, etc.) with the same adherence to tradition while proving to be among the most prolific and individually expressive in the genre. The result is a clear portrait of stylists in their element.
I guess it figures: I ate KFC for the first time in years today, loved every bite, and then I hear some warm, spicy and thoroughly satisfying music from some good friends... the two things fit - I like both of them, and I want more! More Chicken! Come on, Ben, a BUCKET of chicken!
