| Influences | Roydan was a musical child, more often than not concentrating more on that, than the more important things in life. There again though, what is more important? If music be the food of love, recent tests have proven Roydan's heart rate, to be that of making love during recent live performances. It comes as no surprise when an artist offers that commitment to their talent, audience’s walk away smiling.
From humble beginnings in a kitchen, at the back of a hardware shop in Flixton, Greater Manchester, Roydan would while away the hours playing the Ukulele with a helping hand from his Dad. Disney songs were the order of the day, along with George Formby, hence the 1981 Tiswas performance of 'Hold Your Hand Out, You Naughty Boy' and 'Daisy Daisy', with The Pretenders following with their big hit 'Brass in Pocket'. Quite apt really because Roydan pocketed £1 for his trouble, handed to him by Chris Tarrant and Sally James. The Custard Pie man looked on with encouraging nods and big thumbs up to this child’s first TV appearance. I hasten to add, that Roydan was suffering from a nasty cold at the time. What a heroic performance (!).
Playing alongside the Singing Postman at various points until about the age of 9 years, touring the many rest homes around Greater Manchester took its toll and the Ukulele was finally hung up in the pantry.
Channel 4 Mini Pops and a spell at The Altrincham Garrick drama school revived the guitar somewhat, not being able to dance quickly placed a stop to any progression and after gaining the lead role in Oliver an unfortunate annoyance resulted in Roydan leaving the production.
At age 16, Roydan began to play the guitar more seriously. After being introduced to the rock and roll lifestyle, and with the hindrance of education out of the way his first song was written. Coincidentally, his Dad had started a Folk Club at The Bird 'ith Hand also in Flixton. Roydan hit the stage running with a handful of songs including Roy Harper covers. This is where the trade was taught, and being around other musicians helped him along tenfold. 1996 saw Roydan playing alongside Nick and Roy Harper with great response, along with performances at many festivals and other miscellaneous gigs.
In 1999, Roydan took a break from performing to concentrate on a real job, and here we are 2009. Morris on.
