I am a 38 year old guitarist who has played off and on in the studio and the road. I call St. Paul, MN home now. I still record at home, modify guitar effect pedals, and build tube amps for fun.
I started playing (underage) in Kansas City, Mo in the late eighties. I would sit in various blues and country bands in the area. I finally got a regular gig with the band, James Bondage. In the early nineties, I moved to Springfield, MO and continued my full-time pursuit of music. I learned a lot about music and life during this time of my life.
Wanting to take a break (and finally get something to eat), I joined the Air Force. After my enlistment, I stayed in Grand Forks, ND. I got involved with a dynamic country music scene--one that paid cash.
I worked with DuWayne Heyd in 1997 for his first album, "A Song in My Heart." This album received some moderate success, "I'm the Last One to Know," which placed at 6 on Airplay International, and "My Little Girl Still Loves Me," which charted at 2. This gig was old school country...but a lot of fun!
I played in numerous cover bands during this time (Stampede, Kid Hollywood) and got to open up for Survivor at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA. On top of this, I hosted an electric open mic night at the Diamond Lounge, a bar that was one step away from "Bob's Country Bunker" from the Blues Brothers. No chickenwire, but a nice metal railing in front of the stage. I called it the "drunk deflector."
In '99, I moved to Illinois to finish my bachelors degree in U.S. history at NIU and take a small break from music. When I decided to get back into it, I got a chance to join up with Andy Herald (The Oracles), Isaac and Elizabeth Hill (The Oracles), and Jer Misiaveg in the band Bicycle Day. This band was three-guitar fun--a sensual noise fest!
After graduating in 2002, I left Bicycle Day and moved to Chicago. In Chicago, I played some acoustic solo gigs here and there and eventually ended up with a weekly gig playing pedal steel for Fulton County Line. In 2004, I moved to St. Paul, MN to work on my masters in education. I finished my masters in December of 2006.
Currently, I am playing with some people here and there and nowhere.
