Il mio nome è Roy Maffezzoli. Sono nato a Trieste il 19 febbraio 1990. Fin da piccolo sono sempre stato immerso nella musica: mio papà (che ha collaborato con artisti come Bob Dylan e Bo Diddley) mi ha dato il blues, il country e il primo rock 'n roll, mia mamma l'hard rock e heavy metal, mio nonno il flamenco, e da solo ho scoperto una passione per la musica pop. Un'altra cosa che mio papà mi ha trasmesso fin da piccolo è la passione per la chitarra. Ho ricevuto il mio primo strumento a 11 anni e, sebbene ero conscio che la chitarra mi avrebbe accompagnato per tutta la vita, mai avrei pensato di farne la mia passione. Ma nell'estate del 2003 ho assistito ad un evento che mi ha cambiato profondamente: ho visto il mio idolo Bruce Springsteen live a Milano. L'evento è stato decisamente una bella "pedata nel culo", che mi ha fatto capire quello che volevo fare nella vita (diciamo che anche aver ricevuto "Made In Japan" dei Deep Purple a 8 anni come regalo di Natale, non ha fatto male di sicuro!).
Dal 2004 ho cominciato a suonare in vari gruppi, e nel 2006 ho iniziato a suonare con i Road Runners, il mio trio rock con il quale ho partecipato a numerosi concerti e manifestazoni a Trieste e nella mia regione, con i quali ho vinto il riconoscimento di Miglior Brano Proprio con "Girls Wanna Dance" e ci siamo classificati terzi, rispettivamente all'edizione 2008 del GASP (Giornata dell'Arte Studentesca Provinciale) al Georock 2008, i due concorsi per giovani musicisti più importanti nella nostra città. Inoltre, come premio per il Georock, abbiamo avuto la possibilità di registrare una canzone per un album di tutti i migliori gruppi giovanili di Trieste, uscito a settembre e comprendente la nostra canzone "Girls Wanna Dance".
Nel 2005 ho iniziato a studiare seriamente lo strumento con il virtuoso Arthur Falcone, ed ora ho iniziato anche lo studio della chitarra classica con Lucio Zanella per ampliare i miei orizzonti.
Nel 2009 Michael Molenda, il direttore di Guitar Player Magazine, la rivista di chitarra più importante al mondo, mi ha scelto per apparire sul numero di marzo della rivista nella sezione "Editor Boy's Big Eight".
Attualmente frequento l'ultimo anno di liceo linguistico, e i miei obiettivi sono diplomarmi, suonando allo stesso tempo il più possibile e pubblicando qualche materiale originale.
E dopo la scuola, chissa? Mi piacerebbe molto suonare, non necessariamente diventare una star, ma se già potessi condividere la mia musica con altre persone, sarei molto felice.------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My name is Roy Maffezzoli. I was born on February 19th, 1990 in Trieste, Italy. I've been into music since I was a kid: my father (who collaborated with artists such as Bob Dylan and Bo Diddley) got me into blues, country and early rock 'n roll, my mother got me into hard rock and heavy metal, my grandpa gave me flamenco, and I discovered a love for pop music on my own. Another thing I inherited from my dad is the love for the guitar, since early age. I got my first instrument when I was 11 and, while I was conscious that the guitar would have accompaigned me throughout my life, I had never thought it would became my life passion. But in the Summer of 2003 I witnessed a life-changing event: I saw my hero Bruce Springsteen live in Milan, Italy. The event definitely kicked my ass, and made me realize what I truly wanted in my life (having received Deep Purple's "Made In Japan" at 8 years old as a Christmas gift also didn't hurt, either!).
Since 2004 I started playing in various bands, and in 2006 I started playing and singing in the Road Runners, my blues-rock trio, taking part at various concerts and festivals both in my hometown Trieste and in my Region. Recently the band was awarded with the mention of Best Original Song with my tune "Girls Wanna Dance", and placed itself in the third position, respectively at the 2008 editions GASP and Georock, our city's most important contest for young musicians. As a prize of Georock we also had the opportunity to record a tune for a compilation album featuring Trieste's best young bands, which was released in September and included "Girls Wanna Dance" as the closing track.
Since 2005 I've been seriously studying the instrument with virtuoso Arthur Falcone, and I started to study classical guitar too (with Lucio Zanella), in order to broaden my musical view.
In 2009 Michael Molenda, editor in chief of Guitar Player Magazine, the World's premier guitar magazine, chose me to appear in the March issue in the "Editor Boy's Big Eight" section.
Currently I'm attending my last year at Liceo Linguistico (a secondary High School specializing in foreign languages), and my current goals are getting my degree, while at the same time playing as more as possible and maybe publishing some original material.
And after school, who knows? I'd like a lot to play music, but not necessarly becoming a Platinum-selling, stadium-filling star.
