Roy Rieck & the Holy Gracious Medley Band. A proud Member of The Collective Family. A hip-shaking-heart-quacking-Middle-Eastern-Americana. The slowest boogie you've ever seen, the quirkiest ballad you've ever heard. A living proof that good times are coming, or that they already went by. Never trust them.
--------------------------------------------------------
Roy Rieck & The Medley Band, another wining (some might say) project from the Collective, born and raised in Tel-Aviv, Israel. The journey began at a late stage of life - during his military service, Roy picked up a harmonica, both out of boredom and because of his love for folk music. In 2007, Roy moved to the Mississippi in search of better understanding of music, but found many cold nights at several different crossroads, with no devil to sell his soul to in return for musical stardom. He did however play harmonica for several acts around the region, from grotesque to divine, from blues to bluegrass, from juke-joints to big festivals (including playing at B.B. King's Homecoming Festival).
Roy returned to Israel to join The Collective - a group of childhood friends, a group of young and promising musicians, all independently involved with several music acts, living and practicing their music around the world, from Oxford through the Mississippi, L.A through Tel Aviv. Within this Collective they formed the Holy Gracious Medley Band, a fearsome force with its own distinctive sound, mixing up boogied-Folk with a Middle-Eastern-Bluesy-twang.
The band began performing around Tel-Aviv and Israel during 2008, gathering a loyal fan-base and releasing a 4-track E.P ("the Pinpoint Room") who managed to receive quite a buzz. In January '09 they released their debut album, "Never Trust the Holy Gracious Medley band" - which was picked up by some of Israel's most respected radio stations and critics. No budget, no PR, no management, no business plan - just the music.
Once the album was completed, the band relocated to London in order to promote the album and to work on next one. One thing led to another, and they ended up staying there for an extensive stay, living together in a small flat in Portobello market, where they retained local following in no time, and playing all over the London circuit as well as many other places in the UK. Once things looked promising enough, it was time to leave again, and the band returned to Israel after a support act for OKKERVIL RIVER came along.
Now days, Roy and the Holy Gracious Medley Band are once again embarking on a new adventure, with many spots around the glob waiting to put them into trouble, and once again - loved ones left behind, future prosperity is in doubt, playing the next street-corner available, up from scratch. It's the Medley Gang philosophy. And it sounds promising!
