About me: What is Pop! The Beat Bubble Burst?
Well, I am a huge music fan. Take away my music and I go into withdrawal. I especially have a fondness for The Beatles and like to find all the connections between the Beatles and other music. Back in college (many years ago) I did short stints on 2 radio stations (KOPN and KCOU) and have always wanted to get back into that. So I have been building my Beatles music library (and music library in general)and hope to have a show on the coolest radio station around, KDHX 88.1 in St. Louis. It took a couple years, but the proposal for Pop! The Beat Bubble Burst was approved in April 2007 and that Oh, so elusive time slot finally opened up! So tune in every Thursday morning from 5-7am (central time) on 88.1 KDHX, Community Radio in St. Louis. The show I will be doing will be as follows: Pop! The Beat Bubble Burst will explore and expose all the great music of the British Invasion, Mersey Beat and Liverpool music scene, Garage Band, Psychedelia, Folk Rock, Glam /Glitter Rock, Pub Rock, Power Pop, Jangle Pop, Neo-Psychedelia and Indie Rock---and of course, the Beatles and Solo Beatles catalog, along with Beatles cover songs (at last count I had close to 2000 Beatles cover songs), novelty, parody, and tributes. My show will sound familiar; it will showcase the bands and songs that have been criminally overlooked by traditional radio.
There were incredible numbers of British bands signed from late ’63 through ’66 during the British Invasion with every label hoping to discover the next Beatles or Stones----but there were too many to all get airplay---and so many deserved airplay. My Show will give it to them. Listeners will finally get to hear the black Do-Wop bands and girl groups from Liverpool.
All those fantastic sounds were picked up and carried through to the present. These bands and artists will also be given their due as I play those bands that carried the threads of British Invasion Rock and Roll – the threads that join all this great music will continue to be revealed with each new show giving the listener a greater understanding and appreciation of the music.
