About me: I am proud to be an affiliate of the original Rational Response Squad started by a team of well known atheist activists who are tired of the role irrational beliefs have in our society. Like the folks who originally started this team of rational responders, I believe that we should live in a world where people need proof for the claims we are told we should believe.
We're looking forward to uniting folks on a local level who want to engage in activism and get together from time to time.
DISCLAIMER: The person/people hosting this myspace page are affiliated with the original Rational Response Squad, however we are not the original. While my views are very similar to those held by the founders of this unique organization, at times they can be different. Please keep this in mind when corresponding with me, and send a letter to the original RRS via their contact form should you choose to engage them directly.
Who I'd like to meet: I want to unite with other people who aren't afraid to speak up about the dangers of religious belief. I want to meet people that understand it's good to respect other people, and sometimes the only way to do this is to show them why you disrespect the ridiculous and irrational things they believe.

PS to the post under mine--i WAS an "atheist in a foxhole" There is an organization for atheist soldiers called just that. WHY ARE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE SO......."nice?"
Hey, double post, but here's an article with an interesting perspective. Not sure how well it'll fly with everyone, but it's always good to hear other viewpoints, other than your own and your opposite:
I just found a story that I found interesting... It's actually pretty old news, though.
ROLLEN "RAINBOW MAN" STEWART Not every story has a happy ending. Former superfan Rollen "Rock 'N Rollen" Stewart made his mark wearing a rainbow wig and crazy costumes to television sporting events in the 1980s. Then he became a born-again Christian and got his "John 3:16" placards lots of air time.
Then he slipped off the deep end and lost touch with reality. Expecting the Rapture to arrive in six days, he made one last bid for TV attention by taking workers hostage in a Los Angeles hotel in 1992.
He got lots of coverage all right — along with life in prison. His bizarre story inspired a documentary, a book project and a Rainbow Man blog which remained active until 2005. This was in the final entry:
"Rollen seemed frustrated that there was no chance of getting out of prison. Even though his next appeal was next month, he had already received a copy of the psychiatrist's report — and it was the same report. 'He just photocopied it,' Rollen said. 'Prophets have been persecuted throughout history.' It would be no different with him, he seemed to be intimating."
The Undercurrent is now welcoming orders for its upcoming issue. The issue will be mailed out at the end of September, and is intended to be distributed until January.
Articles in the upcoming issue will include:
*an article arguing that the War in Iraq is not, though it should be, guided by the goal of self-defense.
*an article arguing that medicine is not an entitlement, but a commodity that should be bought and sold like any other good.
*an article arguing that people put too much weight on statistical surveys as a guide for action.
*an article discussing and defending the value of corporations
*an article discussing the clash between religion and rational thought
*Two Ayn Rand Institute Op-Eds still to be selected
There will be an announcement when the articles are posted.
