On $mooth Groove$ we try to play dope ass Hip-Hop music, & just good music in general...seein as Halifax/Nova Scotia doesn't have an Urban music station that provides the community with music on the regular, I've always takin the responsibility to supply those fans of Hip-Hop/Urban/Black music with a high quality program, whether it's the actual music itself or the production value of the show, etc. so that people will take it serious...
I was just a 14yr. old kid when I started doin shit with CKDU, then known as 97.5 FM...I had started volunteerin in the summer of '92, but with school back in Sept., I couldn't find enough time to balance the 2, so I put the radio aspirations on hold...then March of '93 I got an opportunity to co-host a show I had been listenin to regularly, "Funk-N-Effect", then hosted by DJ Deelite (Kendall Mulder) It was a Funk, R&B type of show...I brought a lil more Hip-Hop edge to it...i'll never forget the things I learned doin that show with DJ Deelite from '93-'97; imagine, a 15, 16 yr. old kid up in the clubs every weekend, just jammin! (See, I looked older with the facial hair & stuff, that's why didn't nobody say shit to me...I was a lucky guy...)
$mooth Groove$ was born in June of 1998...see, based on some pure & utter stupidity, DJ Deelite & I had lost our "Funk-N-Effect" show by the end of '97...through some hard work & plenty of convincing through reference letters & what have u, I worked my way back into CKDU & by June of 98, $mooth Groove$ was birthed...it started out as a 1 hr show, but because the DJ after me, DJ Nemesis (Austin Price) moved away, BANG! I got a 2 & 1/2 hr. show...since then it's been alot of crazy shit...
Me personally, I love radio & love doin the show...I love music in general, so this is right up my alley...
$mooth Groove$ has provided me with ALOT of opportunities, in soooooo many different areas, but especially in bein involved in the Hip-Hop scene, here in Scotia & in Canada in general...
SO...give my show a listen sometime...& holla at me with some comments about what u like or dislike about the show...If you're an upcomin artist, then definitely holla at me...that's my favorite part of the show, playin NEW artists and songs...sometimes months, even years before you hear of them, definitely on a commercial level...
