About me:

I'm an American writer living in northern France. My novella Tattooing Violet was published by Scrybe Press in February.

Direct links to online sellers for Tattooing Violet are posted in my blog and at rtmitchellstories.com.

Needled.com says: "Tattooing Violet is a story about Craig and Violet, abused siblings in Tennessee, whose world changes once Mataora, a young Maori tattoo artist, enters their lives as their step-brother. Once Mataora's mother leaves, the father's tyranny becomes worse and the three suffer in silence, that is, until Mat begins to tattoo their stories on their backs. As the images come to life, their horrors are no longer kept secret. I read the 50-page novella in one sitting. The Maori concepts of mana and utu, honor and revenge, fuel the story and propel readers towards its soulful ending.

Tattooing Violet is free from the usual tattoo cliches found in popular lit and remarkably paints a vivid and realistic picture of tattooing despite the author's art-free corpus. A recommended read."

Tattooing Violet's back cover reads: A riveting story about a boy and his reclusive sister, too damaged or terrified of their abusive father to tell anyone -- until their new step-brother tattoos their stories on their backs. As those pictures take on lives of their own, the events behind them can no longer be denied... RT Mitchell's language flows like a rollercoaster on greased tracks heading for a brick wall. It will hit you over the head with a sledgehammer and you'll say thank you and ask for more...

Thank you for the friendship. As you can see, I am a writer promoting my work on myspace. I have a fiction blog where I post short stories as a way of staying in touch with fans and to give potential new readers a chance to gauge my work. It would be very cool if you'd check it out.

Thanks again,
Mark
Kia ora ano

Thanks for your message, last night when I got home I realise my comments were not well thought out...it's a story!!!! Geez louise.

I certainly hope my personal views did not offend, it was suppose to be constructive feedback.... at the end of the day I did enjoy reading it! And more importantly appreciate you forwarding a copy on to me.

I have a friend who is a talented young playwright who is also very interested in reading it as well so I am passing it on to her, it will be interesting to hear her comments (coming from a NZer Pakeha view).

You have opened a can of worms though Mr Mitchell, last time I read a book was 12years ago (when my eldest was a toddler) a book I was throughly enjoying until I came to the end to find my darling child had ripped the last two pages out lol. Yours has been the first since but it reminded me of how much I do enjoy a good read and am now reading a book from another NZ playwright who wrote about the co-allition between Maori and the New Testament.

Well look at me, Im all over your page lol, so maybe that is enough for today.

Kia pai to ra!
(have a good day)

Kia ora e hoa

I read your book last night and I did enjoyed it, however..... understandably it is hard to catch the essence and spirituality which is Maoridom. I think you and your whanau need visit my beautiful country!

Also, sadly... the same stereotypes that plague us here seem to have seeped into your book, which was alittle disappointing.

But overall good effort Mr Mitchell, I will read it again and no doubt appreciate your efforts even more.

Kia pai to ra (have a good day)

Tehei Maoriora!

Kia ora mr mitchell, hope things are all good with you! Ive been such a slacker since moving, time management is a big issue and myspace just takes up too much of it lol.

Was wondering? Ever thought of adapting your book as a play?
