I've been a dj now for well over 12 years, and I've also owned a record store for the last 5 years. I'm really not sure how i stumbled into this business nor can i exactly say why i chose to become a dj. Music was always around me growing up, my parent's listened to The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Doors, and various other bands. I suppose having that as a backdrop to the MTV days, plus Friday night videos, might have been some influence. I really didn't walk into my dj career until i met my wife, who was then my girlfriend. She took me to my first club and it was there i saw Dj Felony djing and mixing music. Ever since that time , i immersed myself in music, picking up vinyl records from all my favorite bands, and producers. My collection numbers in the 20,000's, and as a dj i found myself trying to perfect the art of mixing songs together. I worked for a record store, Latin One Stop, under the legendary dj/promoter Super Loop Figueroa and from there learned how to dj from some of the best in town. After djing at bars & various clubs, i decided to get into the music business, as a hobby/career. I opened up R-Type Records in 2004, which was located in Ft. Worth off of W7th Street.
R-Type became more about other djs than just myself, it served as a face for a whole lot of djs who for some reason were never given a shot to dj live in front of real crowds or events. It networked the entire Ft. Worth dj community, some of those connections still exist today, but were paved through the record store. It was one of the best things to ever happen in Ft. Worth a city pretty much with a dead rave/ EDM scene, and i'm proud to have been a part of that.
Other than music, playing video game's with my kids & watching my Dallas Cowboys & Boston Red Sox take up much of my free time.
