A soulfull breakbeat & lounge trip for the future...
In the early eighties Jan Rubba J Costermans followed two years of music-courses on saturdays learning the basics of guitarplaying.
During the old school hiphop years he started experimenting with a little drummachine and his guitar with two tapedecks in search for the funk groove.
In the mid nineties he hooked up with some fellow-friend musicians and started a reggae-funk band called Fever.
Still growing in his own music, strongly influenced by funk (Prince, Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock, ), he discovered some deephouse CDs from his girlfriend. Bitten by the groove, he made a demo which brought him in contact with Koenie (dj & label-owner of Wallys Groove World, Wha? Roots Records). Thanks to Koenie, Rubba J met Marius (dj & producer on Wallys Groove World), which collaborated into a new deephouse formation called Deepwater.
Later on Rubba J got together with two old friends from Fever, Bernd & Wouter, and formed Trio Delicado; pulsating percussion with drums and funky vibes.
Together with Koenie & Marius, under the name Mayaku, Rubba J explores new horizons of house music.
And finally in early 2001, he made his first solo debut, a mix of all influences together under the name Rubba J.
