R.U. Bound was formed for one reason; a common love of classic American music.
In the beginning both Gary & Adam were members of the same modern, alt. country band. They found themselves jumping into impromptu versions of tunes like “Salt Creek” or “I am a pilgrim” at sound checks, rehearsals or just about any minute of down time. But it wasn’t until a gig came up that caused them to put some organization to this common interest. One of Gary’s banjo students was getting married and wanted “old time” music at the wedding. The Duo was off and running. Another key element of R.U. Bound was created by this wedding gig, original composition. For the wedding march Gary wrote a great banjo/guitar piece, “Cynthia’s Waltz”. Thereby completing the concept: maintenance & preservation of great American music & songs, perpetuation of a form through composition.
Gary Puckett has been a pro. for decades, traveling the U. S. as well as across the big pond. He has backed up or played along next to countless great musicians & has the stories and wonderfully tasteful playing to prove it. Gary has also taught an army worth of banjo & guitar pickers over the years. The only issue you’ll have booking Gary will be where to put all the cases for his instruments!
Jim Saltz has been a part of the bluegrass circuit in central Ohio for since the late 70’s, back before he grew as tall as his bass. If you need a song list, he your man, he’s played them all and has probably sung at least two different vocal parts on each, if not more. Not to mention he is a great artist and all around good guy.
After spending a decade traveling, playing guitar, singing & writing with various electric blues & rock-n-roll projects, Adam Schlenker’s interest in acoustic music has taken priority. Its not been just an interest for him for the last several years, it’s been his passion. Having set aside the electric guitar & focusing on his time on flat pick acoustic guitar, mandolin & as of late, the claw hammer banjo style.
At an R.U. Bound show your bound to hear songs that date back hundreds of years, a bit of history and some new tunes that hope to help keep a great American art form alive. You’ll also meet three people who love the music they play, the instruments its created on, and the great musicians who came first to make it all happen.
