   About Ruby & the Emeralds
Ruby & the Emeralds Edinburgh based band Ruby & the Emerald enwrap your entire being within a cosmic layer of sassy mayhem. They play some of the most vibrant dance music in the country incorporating limitless styles and genres from all over the globe. While currently playing gigs all over Scotland the band are constant favourites for Edinburgh based club night “the BIG freak”. On the 17th of September 2006 ‘Ruby and the Emeralds got the opportunity to perform at Perth Concert hall with the maverick 12- piece orchestra, ‘Music at the Brewhouse’. This project involved various master class sessions working with professional composer Stephen Deazley, as part of a project called ‘the Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle.’ This project took 5 local bands of 16-21 year olds and got them to develop their compositions over a three month period before finally showcasing them at what was a highly professional and unique performance. It was an unforgettable experience which creatively matured their song writing and arrangement skills. It also inspired their incorporation of violins, cellos, congas, plus many other textures which their music continues to provide. The Band recorded their first home spun album ‘Captain Baz’ in November 2007 and have since then been working on new material with additional backing singers and a double bassist. ISLE OF EIGG TENTH ANNIVERSARY ***** the Scotsman 2007 “It was thus a thoroughly warmed-up crowd that shook its collective booty to the night's last band, Ruby and the Emeralds, whose sassy mix of blues, Latin and pop was widely rated as one of the weekend's highlights.” Sue Wilson, Ruby & the Emeralds @ the Jazz Bar *** the Skinny 2006 “‘five-piece trio’ Ruby and The Emeralds are a mix of influences, and the resultant soup manages to straddle genres without contrivance. They don't play funk as such, but are underpinned by a very funky rhythm section indeed, over which elements of psychedelic reggae, rock and jazz collide. Although more suited to a beer-pong fuelled house party than the regimented atmosphere of a midweek night at The Jazz Bar, the band still managed to rock the crowd. They played an action packed set that included a funked up Black Magic Woman, Frank Zappa-esque story telling and a scat pitched almost perfectly between James Brown and Tom Waits.” Ali Maloney While the band loves bringing in various instruments to colour their sound the collective mainly consists of; Ewan Macintyre: Vocals/ Guitar Paddy Hare: Saxophone/ Vocals/ Flute Jamie Kenny: Double Bass Dominic Hardy: Drums Alex Auldsmith: Percussion/ Vocals Contact: Ewan Macintyre; 0794 008 1435; absinthemakes@yahoo.co.u
