Stencil art, art, comedy, urban photography, pop culture, sophistry, stencil grafitti, working for myself for once and music. This guy is (as they say in the vernacular)awesome and has great taste in music.
A Low Hum
Music
Listening to Heavy Cross by the Gossip; Quiet dog bite hard - Mos Def; Lady Hawke, careless memory Duran Duran, and other 'I hate your snobby taste in music' songs; Bjork, Portishead, Flight of the Conchords; Blondie; David Bowie and Grace Jones; Natural Born Killers; The Matrix, Cabaret and Trainspotting soundtracks; Late Night Mix 3, CD1; 'Natural Courses' by The Holy Sons*** Ultra violet music,
*** 'wait 'til your father' The Haints of Dean Hall, ***'Back of the van'
The always excellent Radio Active
However for background my old launch radio station should give you some indication...
Soricine's radio station
gotta hate it when you lose the password to your account.
Movies
Chanel, 'The Moguls' - quite good, despite including an unfortunate and yet entirely necessary Ted Danson nude scene; 'The Darjeeling Limited'; 'Abba the Movie','Frida';'Juno' 'Coffee and Cigarettes' and 'Stranger than Paradise' directed by Jim Jarmusch. Love 'Pulp Fiction', 'Kill Bill' I and II - Quentin Tarantino is a genious. 'Wings of Desire' directed by Wim Wenders; Almodovar has his moments too. Cyrano de Bergerac with Gerard Depardieu;
'Judou' and 'Raise the Red Lantern' by Chinese director Xiang Ji Mou for their excellent cinematography.
and den, just to shake things up a little, 'Dude, where's my car?' SWEET!
Television
True Blood, Flight of the Conchords; Harvey Birdman, Boston Legal; Ugly Betty; My Name Is Earl; Family Guy; Arrested Development; Yes Minister; Star Trek Next Generation, Garth Marenghi's Darkside; Father Ted; Dead Like Me; Missing: 'In Search Of', 'The Young Ones','Rockwiz', 'Iron Chef', 'Good News Week' and 'Crossing Over'. I love documentaries and mocumentaries and other stuff to do with wee ghosties as light entertainment.
Books
'Stiff' by Mary Roach. Best book ever written. The human equivalent to '101 uses for a dead cat'... what could be better than that? Favourite books: 'Will There Really Be a Morning?' The autobiography of Frances Farmer; Ruby Fruit Jungle, Rita Mae Brown; The Great Gatsby; Catcher in the Rye; Anything at all that is True Crime or Modern American or by Dorothy Parker. Just read: In Cold Blood.
Heroes
Wonder Woman and Seth MacFarlane. The guys at rotten.com and the people at Pop Bitch. You know who you are.
Ruby Q - Muse, laggard, self promoter. Why do you ask?
First off. I was not really born in 1978. I simply tell people that I was born in 1978 because that's the year Duran Duran was formed and my world became a better place. Were it not for Nick Rhodes and his penchant for all things arty and pretentious, (anyone remember Nick's 'Moist' trip to the art gallery with Smash Hits?) I, a humble girl from the 'burbs, would never ever have shown an interest in either art or music of any kind, whereas now of course I can't imagine life unable to grasp a Peter Cook joke or laugh at Nick's regular appearances on the pop bitch mailing list looking like the Hello! magazine poptart muppet that he is. Bless.
I am an unabashed eighties and disco geek who knows all the words (and the accompanying actions more often than not) to any given novelty dance with the sole exception of The Hustle and the chicken dance - for obvious reasons. Some things remain to be mastered... some to be obliterated from living memory.
I am a bit of a fan of indulging the inner child, especially when to do so doesn't cost too much (chasing Duran Duran around the country on their 2003 tour notwithstanding). This is a nasty habit that has caused me to collect many metres of vinyl that others have otherwise discarded. Probably with good cause. Anyone with a playable version of the 'Bus Stop' , the holy grail of playable vinyl - I am in the market. This is not to say that I don't have *eclectic* taste in music, simply to acknowledge that if I were on Rockwiz my special subject would inevitably be 80s music trivia, specifically androgynous looking men and Grace Jones.
Back in the day I had a radio show devoted to my passion (70s and 80s disco) called 'The Ruby Cube'. By all accounts it was the squarest disco in town. It was me, a four hour graveyard shift, a stalker (hiya Dennis!) and two or three of my mum's K-Tel complilation rekkids. Scratches, dust and all.
As you can see, I quite like street art and No. I do not think that it all looks like shite or should be banned. It adds character. Like lines on a face.
..
Who I'd like to meet:
Young Clint Eastwood; Butter side up.
Young Paul Newman RIP.
Hervey Keitel. Any old age. I like the classics.
For quite some time now I've been collecting the set of 80s Australian front men. Only really Ivor Davies and James Freud to go.
I already met all five original members of my all time favourite band Duran Duranin one place at once this part is kind of a drag of a question and a brag all in one. Real nice guys. I was extremely chuffed when JT signed my daggy A-4 sized mirror which has his picture on it. Forever it shall adorn the walls of my er, 'bathroom'. When the technology has been perfected I also plan on cloning Roger using genetic remnants left on the towel he handed to me in Sydney just for yelling out 'best fucking band in the world' with appropriate fist punching actions. I once bumped into the Dalai Lama near enough to literally at the Art Gallery of New South Wales... it was more of a surprise to me than you could possibly imagine. I had no idea the DL even liked art. Perhaps he had been speaking to Nick Rhodes?
Hey RubyQ. Sorry bout the time change fiasco.> Out of our control. We got told at the gate after doing 120 over the Wainui hill to make it by four. Screamed up to the entrance and found out we could of just done 50. Oh well. Maybe you made it back on Monday? Stay Disco.
