Who I'd like to meet: "I'm a very ambitious person. I don't believe by any means that I've even begun to do what's inside me. I have a burning sort of fire inside me to do certain things which I know I'm going to do. I'm going to defeat all these berks that are around me and I'm going to do it. I mean, I have a name of being very difficult, I'm not difficult at all, I just cannot take mediocrity, I just cannot take it on any level."
- Peter Sellers
"Like all professions acting has terrible drawbacks. It can be fearfully boring, fearfully unglamorous...But what is fun about the theatre is that we get our prizes while we are alive to enjoy them. We have the pleasure of the audience's reaction, we have the applause, we have the publicity, we have the tribute and the honours and whatever it may be. Much more than we probably deserve."
- John Gielgud
"I cut my finger. That's tragedy. A man walks into an open sewer and dies. That's comedy."
- Mel Brooks
"I don't make much distinction between being a stand-up comic and acting Shakespeare - in fact, unless you're a good comedian, you're never going to be able to play Hamlet properly."
- Ian McKellen
"I won't quit until I get run over by a truck, a producer or a critic."
- Jack Lemmon
"'Get out of show business.' It's the best advice I ever got, because I'm so stubborn that if someone would tell me that, I would stay in it to the bitter end."
- Walter Matthau
"I'd like people to remember me as someone who was good at his job and seemed to mean what he said."
- Jimmy Stewart
"Always make the audience suffer as much as possible"
- Alfred Hitchcock
Any actor who tells you that they have become the people they play, unless they're clearly diagnosed as a schizophrenic, is bullshitting you.
- Gary Oldman
"I do take my work seriously and the way to do that is not to take yourself too seriously."
- Alan Rickman
The Nicholls Players is proud to announce this semester's production of Spoon River Anthology. Production begins this week, Oct. 16 - 18 (7:30pm) and Oct. 19 (3:00pm). Tickets are $10 General Admission and $5 for students of all ages. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 985-448-4586.
Hopefully you and your friends and family can come see the show. It is a good one; the students on and back stage are doing a wonderful job, for your pleasure!!!
In addition to the fine acting, there is live music, dance and wonderful pantomime. A bit about the play from another promoter: "Spoon River Anthology is a national treasure. Poet Edgar Lee Masters made a portrait of his home town community circa 1915 by writing an epitaph for each of the people buried "on the hill". Each epitaph is a miniature drama reflecting the country's defining experiences -- the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, the waves of pioneers and immigrants, the relentless industrialization that transformed the way people thought as well as the way they earned their livings. Playwright Charles Aidman, struck by the theatrical potential of the material, took some seventy of Masters' hundreds of poems and arranged them in an order (and dramatized them) where they would illuminate one another."
Please forward this to your family and friends who enjoy great theatre. We hope to see you there.
