Influences
we all listen to different stuff from jazz, funk and hip-hop to reggae, ska, rock, punk and more - most of which somehow seems to work itself into the sound of the band as a whole...
Sounds Like
"an upbeat hip-hop/funk ensemble with dynamic arrangements swinging from ambient jazz to full-on punk energy" - Contraband Sessions
"a modern funk band that didn't make me want to rip my own ears off" - BBC Bristol Uncovered
"a sax-fronted funk band growing in strength with every performance; tight as hell and a strong MC to boot" - The Attic
"a ferocious jazz-funk-rock fusion with a rhythm section that could drive any band" - Live Music Scene [click here for full review]
"Ruckus Collective are bold as brass and funkier than old socks - one of Bristol's hottest bands right now" - Mad Method
"these young funkophiles have the skill and energetic invention to propel them to greater things... it's the rhythmic spice of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the fizz of Ozomatli. Sax masters and effervescent MCs, they’d turn Monday morning into a party - prepare to be moved" - Fact Fans

This is how Roland played the bass during his period of incapacitation...
What do you get when you combine a rhythm section who think they're the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a richly innovative guitarist exploring the limitless possibilities of the instrument, two furiously funkadelic saxmen and a one conscientious MC?
The answer is Bristol's Ruckus Collective, an original funk/hip-hop/fusion group drawing on influences in a wide variety of genres from jazz, funk, hip-hop and rock to reggae, ska, blues and experimental electronica.
More recordings are coming out all the time. We're working on a lot of new material at the moment and always looking for gigs. Keep watching this space for updated information...

Hi - cheers for the add! While we're at it I thought I'd let you know about an extra-special New Root gig on Saturday 31st May @ The Croft, Bristol.
We're doing a headline set featuring Visual Projections from VJ James Bragg and everyone gets a FREE copy of our new 'Sick of Me' EP on the door. Venue Magazine described it as '...an extraordinary sound...a sort of power pop/goth/rock opera hybrid...the most exhilarating thing we've heard all week'.
There also support from Sally-Anne Langton - 'one of Bristol's most promising singer/songwriters' - plus Special Guests. All for £5. You can buy tickets in advance from www. thenewroot. com
Thanks and hopefully see you there on Sat 31st May!
My first vinyl release is out now via Nu-Urban on Flighcase Recordings "Moving and Grooving"...Its going down a storm in Bristol so go check it and buy it if you like it! Here's the link:
