About me:

The proposed Iraqi oil law would take the majority of Iraq's oil out of the exclusive hands of the Iraqi government and open it to international oil companies for a generation or more. The law is the smoking gun revealing the oil agenda behind the Iraq war. It is what the war was for. For more information go to http://www.iraqoillaw.com/.

We've now had 5 years of lies about 9/11, WMD's, and freedom. The real reasons were oil, profiteering, and fascism. Not just Bush, but the news media, most of congress, and all who remain silent. And now they'll use fear to quash dissent. It's nothing new -- it's been going on for ages. War, poverty, ecocide, arrogant bullying --they're all from greed and fear, which come from ignorance. ♥ But it's not too late -- we can still learn to make peace. Talk with people. Love, Eric

VIGIL AND NONVIOLENT DIRECT ACTION TO CLOSE THE SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS AND TO CHANGE OPPRESSIVE U.S. FOREIGN POLICY - NOVEMBER 16-18, 2007

On the weekend of November 16-18, thousands will gather at the gates of Fort Benning, Georgia. The weekend will include a massive rally, nonviolent direct action, trainings, workshops, benefit concerts, puppet shows, teach-ins, film screenings and more

The School of the Americas (renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation SOA/WHINSEC) is not an aberration of U.S. foreign policy but a clear illustration of it. The racist system of violence and domination that is being promoted by institutions like the SOA/WHINSEC, employs military solutions as the one-size-fits-all "solution" for social problems throughout the world.
Fort Benning, Georgia, one of the biggest military bases in the world has become a focal point of the people power resistance to this system. In recent months, caravans from Veterans For Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War and the Journey for Humanity and Accountability by Chindy Sheehan and Anne Wright took a stand for justice at the gates of Fort Benning.
In November, social movement leaders from Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, Colombia, the United States and other countries will converge on Fort Benning to speak out against empire and call for justice and peace.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
THURSDAY, November 15: Benefit Concert in Atlanta, Georgia; trainings and workshops in Columbus, Georgia
FRIDAY, November 16: Teach-Ins, workshops, films screenings and a benefit concert in Columbus, Georgia
SATURDAY, November 17: Massive rally with music, speakers and a puppet show at the gates of Fort Benning, Georgia, Teach-Ins, workshops, and films screenings at the Columbus Convention Center and in hotel meeting rooms in theevening; benefit concert at night.
SUNDAY, November 18: Veterans march to the gates, commemoration of the victims of SOA/WHINSEC violence at the gates of Fort Benning

Good stuff! Make it downloadable for my CATV show. Happy Turkey Day. Don't drink and drive, or you might wake up in the White House...

George Bush Jr: Convicted Drunk Driver - Texas Gov. George W. Bush acknowledged Thursday that in 1976 he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near his parents' home in Kennebunkport, Maine. Bush, who was 30 at the time, pleaded guilty, paid a $150 fine and his driving privileges were temporarily suspended in Maine. Late Thursday evening, following a campaign rally in this tightly contested Midwestern state, Bush - with his wife, Laura, at his side - told reporters news accounts of the incident were accurate, that he had been drinking in a bar with Australian tennis pro John Newcombe and others. "I'm not proud of that. I made some mistakes. I occasionally drank too much, and I did that night. I learned my lesson. I told the guy (the arresting officer) I had been drinking, what do I need to do? He said, 'here's the fine.' I paid the fine." Bush said the timing of the initial news report, just days before Americans elect a new president, was "interesting."

"Sheriffs, judges and even advocates fighting drunken driving have all criticized the new Tennessee law that uses shame to punish drunken drivers. A governor's task force recently recommended scrapping the law, which makes offenders pick up litter wearing bright orange vests that say, 'I am a Drunk Driver.' The law requires first-time offenders to spend 24 hours in jail and do 24 hours of litter pickup while wearing the embarrassing orange vest. Robertson County Sheriff Gene Bollinger said the idea of shaming drunken drivers simply doesn't work. 'Most people aren't even embarrassed," said Bollinger, who serves as president of the Tennessee Sheriff's Association. "I see them out there just laughing. They're not taking it seriously.'"
—Beth Rucker, Knoxville News Sentinel, "DUI 'shame' program shamed by task force," November 20, 2006

"Strictly speaking, a driver can register a BAC of 0.00% and still be convicted of a DUI. The level of BAC does not clear a driver when it is below the 'presumed level of intoxication.'"
Tennessee Driver Handbook and Driver License Study Guide

"One of the major defects in many methods of blood-alcohol analysis is the failure to identify ethanol. None of the breath machine manufacturers warrant these things to actually test blood alcohol."
—Lawrence Taylor, attorney at law, DUIcenter.com, Drunk Driving Defense, 5th Edition (2000)

"Just when you thought the Orwellian Big Brother society couldn't possibly accelerate further, it gets even worse. A move is afoot to force 245 million drivers in America to have alcohol breathalyzers fitted in their vehicles, ignition interlocks that prevent the vehicle from being started by an inebriant. 'The threat of arrest and punishment, for decades the primary tactic against drunken drivers, is no longer working in the struggle to reduce the death toll, officials say, and they are proposing turning to technology — alcohol detection devices in every vehicle — to address the problem,' reports the New York Times."
—Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones, PrisonPlanet.com, "Big Brother To Decide If You Drive," November 20, 2006

[walkout to getout]: national walkout only one week away!

Demand Books Not Bombs this November 7th!

november 7, 2006: National youth walk out. Mobilize to show the opposition of young people to a war that is killing our peers. Be creative, help people get to the polls and speak out!

On November 7th, the day of the mid-term elections, young people across this country will Walk Out to Get Out of Iraq! Our month of education, organizing, and mobilizing will culminate on what will be a powerful display of the youth and student movement for peace and justice! We are calling for young people to walk out of their schools, their campuses, and their jobs, not only to go out and vote and to help others vote, but also to show the people in power that the youth and students of this country will not stand aside while they prioritize war and profit over our needs!

In 2003, over 450 schools participated in a walkout before the war even started! In the fourth year of this illegal war, let's double that number!

  • Be sure to go to www.nyspc.org and let us know if you are going to participate so we can publicize and get a sense of how many people are joining this historic day of resistance! Register your event!!

  • Put up flyers, use sidewalk chalk to get the word out all over your campus, community, work place, etc. You can use our stencil!

  • Write an op-ed or letter to the editor to your local and campus newspapers

  • Post it on your Myspace account, your blog, send emails to friends and all those who have signed the Books Not Bombs pledge, etc

Be sure to get as many people as you can to participate with you. This is a day for solidarity and collective action, each one of us is affected by the spending on this war. Ask your family, friends, co-workers, and classmates to join in on this day of resistance! Ttouch base on what plans are in the works, how many folks you have signed up, permits for rallies, rides to the polls, t-shirts, publicity, etc. You could also do some research on candidate's stance on the war and create some flyers to let folks know. Remember, not everyone (or anyone) has to walk out; there are other options for everyone who wants to get involved.

Another Inconvenient Truth

[Animals] were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites or women for men.
Alice Walker

The time will come when people such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of people.
Leonardo da Vinci

The average meat eater is responsible for the deaths of some 2,400 animals during his or her lifetime. Animals raised for food endure great suffering in their housing, transport, feeding and slaughter.
J Motavalli, So You're an Environmentalist; Why Are You Still Eating Meat?

I feel very deeply about vegetarianism and the animal kingdom. It was my dog Boycott who led me to question the right of humans to eat other sentient beings.
Cesar Chavez, United Farm Workers
