Under the initiative of its current Artistic Director, ..Aurélien Besnard.., these performers have now been working together for five years..... For the first three years of the artistic association’s existence, its members organized many concerts and musical exchanges in various performance cafes throughout Montpellier. These concerts were based on improvisation and the ephemeral encounter, with over 40 different musicians participating in one or more of the events..... “After the experimental years, a natural evolution led us to create more structured musical units within the larger collective. This evolution marked the birth of different groups, each with the desire of developing a strong identity of its own.”.... The goal of the label is to provide artistic, technical, logistical and financial assistance for the recording and distribution of the artists. Over the last year, its volume of activity has grown considerably. The graphic artist ..Nicolas Claveau.. has, since the label’s inception, provided the distinctive look for all of its recordings, as well as for the association’s website, concert posters, flyers, newsletters, etc. Two administrative personnel are now employed by the association, Didier Dambreville taking care of active PR work for the artists, while Abel Gibert ensures promotion..... “Rude Awakening présente...” also develops national and international exchanges, notably with the ..Hiatus.. collective of Montréal (Quebec) and the ..ILK recording label.. (Denmark). And the association remains active in organizing concerts in Montpellier (at the Baloard, the Oignon Givré and the Paul Valéry Theater), maintaining a pace of monthly concerts showcasing nationally and internationally renowned artists (past concerts include: Les yeux d'la tête, ..Sylvain Chauveau and Steven Hess.., Guillaume Viltard, Zagaria et Richomme, the Kessler / Bachevalier duo, ..the Marc Ducret Trio.., Alex Kittel solo, ..the Franck Vigroux trio.., Quart'ograph, Raymond Boni & Luc Bouquet, ..François Corneloup, John Tchicaï, Louis Sclavis.., and many others)..... The association’s field of activity is, more generally, linked to improvisational practice. A Few Words About The Recording Label :



Rude Awakening presente is a collective comprising over 20 musicians from various cities in France, as well as from Copenhagen and Chicago. Under the initiative of its current Artistic Director, Aurélien Besnard, these performers have now been working together for five years.

For the first three years of the artistic association’s existence, its members organized many concerts and musical exchanges in various performance cafes throughout Montpellier. These concerts were based on improvisation and the ephemeral encounter, with over 40 different musicians participating in one or more of the events.

“After the experimental years, a natural evolution led us to create more structured musical units within the larger collective. This evolution marked the birth of different groups, each with the desire of developing a strong identity of its own.”
