Don't be surprised if Rudy calls you such names as Chucky, Spunky, Biff, Buddy, Buster, Bucko, and Slick!
Ed Boon is the voice of Rudy. You may also know him as the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat fighting game series, for which he is the voice of the characters Scorpion, Liu Kang, Raiden, and Shao Khan.
The game originally had 5 targets: S-T-E-P-S. After playing a few rounds,
Mark Ritchie (also a well-known
pinball designer), felt one of the targets
was in the way of his shots. Evidently,
this prompted Lawlor to remove the 2nd -S- and
leave it simply as S-T-E-P. Only 15 sample games
were made with the 5 targets.

This concept is demonstrated by the game taking on a life of its own as it allows Rudy to taunt you with his words, follow your ball with his eyes, and show no mercy when it comes to you running through his "Funhouse". Pat Lawlor is the brains behind the "FunHouse" design. He is a prominent pinball creator/designer and highly recognized by pinball enthusiasts alike.
The artwork on "FunHouse" was created by John Youssi. He also is an eminent figure in the pinball industry and has been doing original artwork for nearly 20yrs. You will find a self-portrait of him and his child on the backglass of the "FunHouse".

"FunHouse" is one pinball game that has so much going on, it is nearly impossible to ever get sick of playing. It is the first pinball machine to have an interactive ball
capturing head on the playfield. This mechanical talking puppet head goes by the name "Rudy"
and his role is to greet visitors and maintain the funhouse. His intentions are to discourage
visitors from being in the funhouse past midnight and to do his best not to fall asleep.
Not only does Rudy's eyes open, close,
and follow the path of the ball (as if to be watching your every move),
but he also blurts out catchy phrases throughout the whole game, allowing you to know
if you are doing well, bad, or making him angry (by pushing his buttons hehe). Rudy isn't just another distraction, he also has a purpose
in gameplay...
Game Play:
OBJECT: Take control of the FUNHOUSE from Rudy, the Dummy, by putting him to SLEEP. Put Rudy to SLEEP by advancing the FUNHOUSE clock to MIDNIGHT. Shots that advance the clock are the Jet Bumpers, the Center Ramp, and the Wind Tunnel.
MULTI-BALL: At 11:30 on the clock a LOCK is enabled, LOCK a ball and the clock will advance to 11:45. LOCK the next ball and the clock will advance to 12:00 putting Rudy to SLEEP. While Rudy is sleeping shoot a ball into his OPEN MOUTH to start MULTI-BALL.
MILLION PLUS: While in Multi-Ball shoot the ball into the
TRAP-DOOR for 2 MILLION. The TRAP-DOOR will close. Shoot a ball around the CENTER RAMP, to RE-OPEN the TRAP-DOOR for 3 MILLION, 4 MILLION etc.
MYSTERY MIRROR: Hitting Rudy in the JAW lights the MIRROR VALUE LIGHT. Shooting into the WIND TUNNEL collects the value from the mirror. The value is changed by the JET BUMPERS.
LEFT BALL SHOOTER: The FUNHOUSE STEPS are lit by entering the MANHOLE to the right of the JET BUMPERS. Making the CENTER RAMP will divert the ball to the left ball shooter. Shoot for one of the FLASHING SKILL SHOT values.
SKILL SHOT: From the right plunger shoot the ball BEHIND Rudy's head to collect Rudy's HIDEOUT BONUS.
Williams used this game theme once before on Williams' 1956 'Fun House' which had three trap doors.
