Exposing the raw untapped talent that exists in the independent world of cinema. Ruff Cutz provides filmmakers recognition for their projects & feedback from award winning and accredited filmmakers and peers in the film industry held at a live event. Many film festivals require that films cannot premiere anywhere before their own festival. However! A 'rough cut' is permitable to showcase anywhere without breaking any film festival regulations. So we decided to hold an event where filmmakers can show their 'rough cuts' and still have the option to premiere a 'final cut' elsewhere.
What is a Rough Cut?
Rough cut: an early edited (or 'cut') version of a film - with all the pieces of the film assembled in continuous, sequential order, but without any fancy editing; also sometimes known as first cut; one of the stages toward the final cut; often used in a focus group screening.
Who is going to attend?
Investors, distributors, filmmakers, producers, agents, actors, press, photographers, and movie lovers.
I'm not a filmmaker. Should I go?
You can come and listen to our guest speakers during the day sessions, or walk the red carpet for a night full of movies, exhibits, food, drinks, and fun. All Ruff Cutz selected films will be given a separate screening. We don't force you to watch anything you don't want to. You can preview our finalist and decide for yourself which films you'd like to watch beforehand. There's plenty of seating for socializing and mingling amongst Boston's most respected film industry professionals.

Is there a dress code?
The evening event is red carpet. There will be press photographers and videographers present. We highly recommend dressing to the occassion.
Award Winning Indie Seminar & Speaker Sessions.
The conference will be broken up into two sessions. Key note speakers will offer individual presentations (you can check the schedule page for posted updates and info).
At the end of each session there will be a break, *food will also be provided before and during the day's events of the conference. At the end of all individual speaker's presentation all speakers will assemble for one full panel discussion (in a James Lipton/Bill Maher type setup for their studio audience). They will discuss the growth and development of independent film and field questions. Come explore current industry issues at workshops and discussions, get hands-on advice at mentor sessions.
Select winners will be awarded various prizes (upto $10k in cash, industry related products and services), production software (such as Roxio, Final Draft, and Avid), and endorsement in the form of the Ruff Cutz Certificate signed by the founders and the Judges which consist of established, successful and highly respected individuals in the film industry along with the Ruff Cutz Fine Cut & Choice Award.
Red Carpet Gala.
The red carpet will be rolled out for the evening session. Food & hour d'oeuvres will be offered to guest. A fully stocked cash bar will also be available also. Filmmaker exhibits, and marquees stations will be spread out thoughout the main ball room for viewing. Think art museum, only with a film exhibts instead of paintings and sculptors. Officially selected Ruff Cutz films will be ahown in a seperate screening room and continue throughout the night followed by an award ceremony.
