I was born in 19th February, 1983 in a small town called Santiago do Cacém, Portugal, altough i lived most of my early years in an another small industrial town called Vila Nova de Santo André. In 2002 i leave this place to undergo a degree in Sound and Image at Escola Superior de Artes e Design, Caldas da Rainha.
In the beggining of 2006 i start an internship at c.e.m-centro em movimento, with tutoring by Sofia Neuparth and Cristina Vilhena, and integrating the production team. It was also a great opportunity as an artist, since the structure altough being based in the performing arts is open to the fusion of other artistic languages with the body. This way my reasearch in Sonic Arts gains depth, and from the beggining it has been based in the recording and electronic manipulation and orchestration of Field Recordings - mainly the city and human actions. The idea of presenting this pieces to the public was a parallel research and it is explored trough my relationship with the performer Luz da Camara, in which in two performance pieces “ Unsex me” and “ Ao fim, ao cabo e ao resto “ i worked in real time composition with my computer. It..s trough this type of works and the use of silence during performance, that the importance of the natural sounds, surrounding the “ Place of Performance “ start to get in my work.
The thought of human interaction with it..s surrounding environment was becoming a variable in my work, and in 2007 i presented an installation at a metro station in Lisbon ( Baixa – Chiado ), In a wall a small mixing desk and headphones were connected to 4 microphones spread around the subway station. The people passing around would “just listen” to the amplified and mixed sound of the environment.
This way i have worked, along this few years with cinema, dance, theater and Fine Arts.
Finally in 2008 i will iniate an MA in Sonic Arts and SARC ( Sonic Arts Research Center ) at Queen..s University Belfast.
