"Denmark band in sounding-like-Depeche-Mode shocker. We’ve just been listening to these guys on my way to the all-night garage to buy some toiletries, and We’ve got to confess, nothing improves a desolate retail park at midnight like Ruined by Martin. If we ever needed a soundtrack for a heroin overdose at a cyberpunk convention, these guys would be top of our commission list.
Main track here is the motivational power-ballad Defy the Odds, where RbM congratulate you on sticking to your guns in a nihilistic post-apocalyptic sort of way. “Aching bad / Dying to / liberate your virtue” growls singer Martin Arnholt, enthusiastically. You can hear the bassist sneering as the uplifting piano kicks in for the chorus. By the time the band start mumbling over one another in Danish, we’re ready to abandon our midnight errand in favour of a tight leather jacket and a bullet-train to Copenhagen. When was the last time Razorlight did that to you? Not since 2003, at least."
