I am a family and community oriented man. I intend to help through my leadership and enthusiasm to begin implementing the changes needed to aid in a better tomorrow.
My 5 Main Issues:
War in Iraq
The war on terror and protecting the United States is essential, however the way that our efforts are being handled are in my opinion misguided and doing much more harm than good. As we continue to work toward a solution to this problem we as Americans should not loose sight of the great sacrafices being made by our troops and their families. Regardless of the extent of our disappointment with what is happening in Iraq and the War on Terror we have a responsibility to be supportive and sensitive to the men and women who continue to fight for us.
Health Care
As Americans we are all affected by the current healthcare crisis, and we cannot in good conscience allow this to continue. We must start making changes at the community level to ensure that health concerns and treatment are resolved. As a nation we cannot turn our backs on the senior citizens and children especially, together we have the ability to make retirement without the worry of affordable healthcare possible. We have the ability to ensure the comfort of knowing our children will be well taken care of through suffiecient and attainable healthcare. I believe as Americans this is our right.
Education
Education is of utmost importance to me. I believe all children should be provided an equal education. Our educational system needs to be competitive with some of the other countries in this world, especially in the areas of math and science. To do this, I believe our government will need to honestly make education a priority and provide the funding to give our children the tools they will need to be competitive and to help them enlarge their understanding of others and the world we live in.
Balanced Budget and Federal Deficit
It is easy for politicians to borrow from our future to fund projects (earmarks) that will help them get re-elected. This practice needs to stop and we need to balance our budget for a long period of time to give us a chance to pay back our $9 trillion dollar deficit. We now spend over $400 billion dollars on interest a year, which is over 6.5 times more than we spend on education. It is time to take responsibility so our children and children’s children will not have to face this burden.
Environment and Energy Independence
As a father of two I now care more about the future of this world than ever before and I see we are heading in the wrong direction. Prior generations have chosen to ignore this issue and some still do to this day. This ignorance has made global warming become more prevalent today than ever before. Our time to act and our time to come together on this issue is now because we cannot afford to wait for tomorrow.
We cannot go wrong if we care for our world. If we work on energy independence for every home and every automobile and if we continue recycle and plant trees then we cannot go wrong.
What if our children look back at 2007 and realize global warming was wrong? What if all of the scientists were wrong? What if everyone was wrong?
Then, their consolation prize will be an energy independent country that will not have to rely on foreign oil. Renewable energy would be widely used so our children will never experience the type of electric bill we are so used to today. Landfills will become more manageable and with new trees our wildlife will not diminish.
The only way to lose on this issue is to not do anything. And the only thing worse than not doing anything is to side with the oil companies. This would ensure that any changes that occur would have to be accepted by these companies and so you can imagine what our children’s world would look like thirty years from now.
Heroes
Jesus Christ, Ghandi, and Martin Luther King. All of these people were not afraid to stand up for what is right and true in their hearts despite opposition.
