Sometimes fate works in mysterious ways. It's not always kind; it's not always gentle. Many times it's an ice water wake up call, but once in a while it does something... miraculous. Ryan and McKenna are from two different worlds. McKenna has small town southern roots(Louisiana) but a big city backbone(Los Angeles), and Ryan has a New England no-nonsense attitude (Burlington, VT) with a penchant for trying out new locales (Nashville, TN, Laguna Beach, CA). But one thing they both have in common is a sincere love of and desire to write music. Unfortunately, two years ago, they were both having a difficult time finding the perfect writing partner. It seems, though, that fate stepped in at the perfect time and delivered them to each other. McKenna had just moved to Vermont a couple weeks earlier when Ryan just so happen to walk into the store where she worked. He saw her, and commented out loud that if he could find someone like her that could sing, he’d be all set. Well, a few weeks later a couple of McKenna’s co-workers, who also happened to be friends of Ryan’s, heard her sing, and told him about her. They gave him her name, and when he came in to look for her, he realized it was the same girl, the girl he had spotted a few weeks before. They could have lived their entire lives in that same town and never have met. She could have passed him on the street everyday and never have realized that the guy with the keen business sense and the ever-ready Olivia Newton-John baseball hat was the musical partner she was looking for... He could have gone through her check out lane everyday with not even a clue that the girl with the consistently friendly attitude and the ever-present 1000 watt smile was the songwriting sidekick he needed. Yes, fate works in mysterious ways; Ryan and McKenna are glad that, in this case, it just worked at all.
Another Fine Undefined Life, is a heartfelt mix of first-hand experience and vicarious influence. Sometimes tender, sometimes bold, sometimes angry, sometimes sweet, but always relatable, the songs reflect a wide gamut of human emotion, and although a song may have arisen from a single event unique to that person, youre left with a feeling of familiarity, of camaraderie with this kindred soul. What it boils down to is a musical melting pot of some of lifes more profound highs and lows, of turning points and reality checks, near-misses and blindsides. Many songs, like If Only, are about taking the road less traveled, or the vulnerability that comes hand in hand with being in love, or, in the case of No One But Me, taking responsibility for being where and who you are today. Its a beautifully simple, infinitely relatable, uniquely musical expression of the everyday trials and triumphs of the human experience.
Sorry I checked out early last night, I had a splitting head ache and was exhausted. After "Walking on Sunshine" the release of my mojo was too much and I needed to call it a night.
I'm happy for you about the outrageous turnout, I've never seen that many people in Higher Ground for a show before.
I hope you are all doing wonderful in the new year! A buddy of mine is heading your way on a ski trip this coming weekend and I told her if she'd be near South Burlington to look ya'll up at your Higher Ground concert. So if a lady shows up named Lorraine, a.k.a. Dazey, and says she was told to say HI from Nece, that's her!! LOL =D
Lots of love and I'll be cheering ya'll from afar for Higher Ground!!!!
I was so thrilled by the seredipity of being at the Lincoln Inn on the same night that you played. It totally made my visit back to VT complete! I love you guys!!!!!
