Sounds Like
Every other pub covers band you've ever been to see...
...Only WE'RE...better, faster, funnier, funkier, wilder, wackier, shorter, fatter, louder, lewder, ruder, shrewder, bigger, badder, rougher, tougher, longer, fatter, smellier, smarter, smoother, groovy-er, sexier, gruffer (grrrrrowl), crueler, kinder, friendlier, finer, wetter, cheaper, sleazier,ROCK AND F'IN' ROLL!!
Okay, this isn't an official biog, and nor is it completely accurate : it's basically what one member can remember of all the time he's had in this, the *greatest* of pub rock bands!!
Rumblestrip itself started about 12 years ago, with a lineup totally different to the one we have now and a setlist which comprised mostly of Indie music. Yeah, yeah, we played Oasis, Blur, all that kind of stuff. Looking back, we're not proud of it, but everyone has a dark part of their lives and we were young and impressionable.
At that time, Andy was the singer, and we had John on drums and Chris playing bass. Ken and Jay can therefore lay claim to being the official remaining founder members, but whether that's worth anything now is for you to decide. Chris left and Harry joined as the bassist, and eventually the influences of the majority of band members (Jay into classic rock, Ken into the more alternative stuff, Harry into metal) started to show, and John left the band (...at the request of the other band members - yeah, you know what I'm saying...) to make way for 'another drummer'.
Now, whether our lack of faith in our loyal and trusted first drummer lay down some ancient curse on us, or whether Ken accidentally hit an albatross driving to Workington, the fact remains that since that fateful day, Rumblestrip have officially had more drummers than Spinal Tap. No really, we have. Our latest (and greatest) member, Carl, is affectionately named Carl XI. 'XI' (for those of you not down with your classics) is roman numerals for ELEVEN. It's a hell of an achievement!
Anyway, getting back to the story, Andy left not long afterwards to do sensible things like start a family and live happily ever after. Harry (who was quite happy doing backing vocals in addition to his bass duties at the time) agreed to do lead vocals until we could find a full-time singer (that was 6 years ago!)
So, with the line up of Ken, Jay, Harry and the next drummer in a LOOOOOONG line(!), Rumblestrip set their sights on being a fully-fledged, rowdy-assed, beer-swilling, good old-fashioned pub rock band. Carl has been the most stable and thoroughly accomplished drummer we've ever had (and he loves Punk. Awesome), and Jay has (with exceptional tuition from the famous Headbanging Monks of Bangalore) mastered the ancient art of rocking out and learned a few excellent songs to give Harry's feeble voice a rest. Ken? well he just kept getting better and better, to such an extent that the title "ROCK GOD" now seems slightly more appropriate than "Lead Guitarist".
Surprisingly, we've found that we're bloody good at this 'being in a band' lark, too. So good, in fact, that we've been rocking out to busy pubs and making a rather nice name for ourselves around Rotherham ever since. We've been around a long time, and to be honest, we kinda enjoy it...
...You never now, we might even play Doncaster one day...
didnt have an hangover but hada very achey neck due to some headbanging and dancing.Enjoyed my nite off GOOD MUSIC. boyfriend enjoyed it too but he was the grumpy one working all nite, which makes a change for him to see me get drunk and have a whoopee time. Thank you! keep on Rocking!
