Running amok...derived from the Malay/Indonesian/Filipino word amuk, meaning "mad with rage" (uncontrollable rage)
The phrase is particularly associated with a specific sociopathic culture-bound syndrome in Malaysian culture. In a typical case of running amok, a male who has shown no previous sign of anger or any inclination to violence will acquire a weapon and, in a sudden frenzy, will attempt to kill or seriously injure anyone he encounters. Amok episodes of this kind normally end with the attacker being killed by bystanders, or committing suicide.
Many explanations for amok have been offered by observers, including suggestions that it is a physical consequence of alcoholism, drug addiction...Psychological explanations include the suggestion that amok is a sudden explosion of internal tension created by life in a highly hierarchical society...Other observers have described amok as a form of spirit possession...Running amok was a way of escaping the world

The best description of Run Amok thus far has been "An evil Foo Fighters"
In mid 2008, singer / guitarist Matt Morales and drummer Max Curry realized that their punk outfit The Hacks had run its course. The two decided to start a new band that would be sleeker and more melodic while at the same time far more sonically agressive and heavier than anything The Hacks had tried. The two coudn't do it alone, however. Luckily they discovered the young, mysterious Damien Blair, whose bass playing skills are only matched by his vocal harmonies.
The three-piece, now named "Run Amok" recorded a six song demo in November 2008 showcasing their new sound. The loud, angry sound is complimented by some of Morales' most honest lyrics to date. Topics range from substance abuse, fear of failure and loss of loved ones (with the occasional tongue-in-cheeck songs to keep things from getting at all emo).
Run Amok started its plans for world domination in 2009, so please have a listen to the posted mp3's and come out to a show.
