Spreading the gospel of country music to people who don’t even know they like country, six girls from four different countries formed the band The Runaway Brides in 2006 and have laughed, cried, and sang together ever since.
Take a punk rock drummer and pair her with a classical violist; add a jazz singer playing a stand-up bass, a bluegrass mandolin player from Kentucky and two loudmouth divas with voices like single malt whisky and you have The Runaway Brides.
This ain’t your average country band. Songs like You Only Like Me When You’re Drunk and Hello Mom, I’m in Jail display their punk rock sensibilities, while This Ain’t About You and Cheating Woman are firmly rooted in traditional country music. With three songwriters in one band, the songs range from deeply personal to pure party.
Singer/Songwriter April Walz is the driving force behind the band, writing the majority of the songs and playing guitar. Trinity Sarratt is a rock n’ roll veteran – she has headed numerous bands and brings to the stage an air of showmanship that you can’t learn if you’re not born with it. Her vocals have been described as Patsy Cline soaked in vodka. Laura Bean adds the sweet sassiness of the mandolin, her unique voice and songwriting talents. Iris Romen has been wowing audiences with her clear soprano at jazz concerts for years, performing solo or with noted musicians such as Mark Scheibe or Andrej Hermlin’s Swing Dance Orchestra. Hannah Epperson is the brand new rising star, making her fiddle smoke and causing the rest of girls to break into unexpected yee-haws at certain moments.
QUOTES
