If you like to take a risk, try Running With Scissors – that’s the name of a challenging new studio band and their first EP will push even the most travelled musical tastes to new levels.
While the noughties have been filled with pop bands tied tightly to one genre or another – Scissors take their inspiration from a single idea or notion.
As their name suggests the Huddersfield pairing of Stuart Comins and Shelley Aldred is producing challenging new sounds that take their thoughts on a creative journey fed by the their combined life and musical experiences.
Baby Baby - If we listen carefully in life we'll hear the echoes of where we've been before and realise it's not the first time we've taken this ride in the circus of life. Do we ever get away from the merry-go-round's cynical tune?
Pink Car – Obsession takes us places we'd never thought we would go filling in the blanks to turn fantasy into our own truths without a thought for the reality of those caught in the wake.
Stella – When something shines so bright, it always leaves a little retina burn sparkle in the room when it dies. But as that fades the room is just that bit darker for having seen such light. Even the stars in life are only a step away from oblivion.
Rollercoaster – Life, a bursting crescendo of manic excitement where even the descents have their thrills, but never far away lies something more sinister. Whatever ride we're on there are always undertones bubbling alongside waiting to spill across and send the car careering off its path.
This EP marks the evolution of Running With Scissors from two musicians coming together to find new and inspirational ways of working. From their first song Pink Car inspired by music brought to the table by Shelley Aldred and Stella a free forming set of words and riff that Stuart Comins found bouncing round his head one summer afternoon in a pub beer garden the pair have forged a new style. Once they had stamped their collaborative voice on Stella and Pink Car the pair then moved on to define their workhorse regime of studio time in which they determined to take one thought or scenario and turn out song after song that reflect on some of those more challenging themes in life that underlay our existence. A teasing insight into what's to come, this EP only hints at the breadth of musical mind games that Running With Scissors have in store for us. Watch out for their album!
