Ruotomieli Biography
Combine the windmilling of Townshend, the rich musicality of Television and the crackling sizzle of Young & The Crazy Horse, lace the mix with sonic sophistication of Hüsker dü and The Clash and front the racket with the streetwit singer-songwriter poet not much unlike Reed, Springsteen or Westerberg and you pretty much get the main ingredients of Ruotomieli. Top it off with the unique rootsy rawness of their own and voilá - you have the starter of a pretty heavy menu.
Ruotomieli started out as unfocused as every other band in 1999 in Oulu. As they got more focused, they got wilder and louder and soon a wee buzz was on. Their loose-yet-uptight attitude created somewhat a stir - as it still does - when the band belted out their messy yet daring debut Jos ei kruunu mahdu päähän, vuollaan pala otsaa pois in 2003. It did OK.
The 2nd independent album Koiruohobluesband (2004) fearlessly combined bluesy sonic riffrock, spaced-out psychedelic proto-punk and rural country flavors and - against all odds - was highly acclaimed and well received. The record sold out its first tiny pressing and brought home all kinds of homage unimportant to the band. The album and the touring after also stabilised the line-up and the band became a quintet adding Veera Nevala on sax and piano.
Ruotomieli has always acknowledged the influence of their mentors, yet they are not a retro group. They may seem to draw their influences largely if not exclusively from certain eras of music but that is as far as it goes. Doing their own thing they are unique and real. On a good day they sound what blood tastes like. And er yes, they stink on a bad day. But even on a bad day the songs speak for themselves if the band does not.
To Ruotomieli rock and roll is anything and everything. The reason to live and not to, the perfect form of street art. The kids deserve to be able to dig bands daring and worthy. Well, here is a daring band beyond your money's worth that knows pretty sure they are not going to make it - so not going all the way is not even an option. With Ruotomieli the possibility for blowing it sustains and they confront it with the best possible rock and roll songs they can produce.
The 3rd album Delta City (2007) pushed the envelope by miles and re-defined the songwriting, the yearn and the bandswagger and was by far their finest effort. Still it was far from a sure shot. It was do-or-die album by a hard working do-or-die band the musicbiz has not fucked up. Not yet.
2009 holds the 10th annual for the band, and you can bet your buttocks they are still at it better, juicier and groovier than ever. As the late great Jimbo once put it "the future is uncertain and end is always near". That is why the band keeps wetting their backs sucking the present dry for the sake of common good. So welcome. Make yourself at home. Stay as long you like.

Parin viime vuoden aikana GNU on säveltänyt ja sovittanut runsaasti
uutta materiaalia. Siitä mitä tälle materiaalille tapahtuu, ei vielä
ole täyttä selvyyttä, mutta mielestämme joukossa on parasta musiikkia
mitä olemme koskaan tehneet. Soittolistaan on nyt lisätty muutama uusi
laulu. Biisit ovat bändin itsensä äänittämiä ja miksaamia ja eivät
välttämättä lopullisia ns. levyversioita.
