........ .. .. .. .. .."I have long admired Suffolk pianist, balladeer and lyricist Rupert Herries as one of the great unsung English eccentrics. Live performances are rare events & worth catching in the flesh if you can - pester him to do more" TOM ROBINSON.. ..Rupert Herries began songwriting at 12 years old, and first performed in London as resident singer-songwriter at the Little Theatre in St Martin's Lane, 1972. He continued performing on the University and Festival circuit and in various venues in the London area until he returned to Suffolk in 1976. In 1980 he released the 7" EP 'Stealing', featuring Roger Eno. Throughout the 90s, Herries concentrated on composing many solo piano pieces and experimental electronic works, and produced several soundtracks in collaboration with with various East Anglian artists and film-makers. .. ..He has shared the bill with George Melley, Neil Innes, The Half Human Band and John Cooper-Clarke among others, performing both solo and with a roster of musicians under the various monikers 'Kork', 'Squork', 'Rupert Herries Band' and 'Kwerk'... ..Herries' most recent project 'Tales of Horror, Mystery and Suspense' gathered together past songs and recent compositions - from the moving to the absurd - and enlisted the talents of musicians Will Barlow (Drums), Nick Parry (Cello and Bass), Lewis Heriz (Trombone and Bass), Ginny Davis (Cello) and John Ramirez (Melodeon) Alex Lamont (Saxophone and Clarinet) ,.. ......
