The Rupertsland Brass Band was founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated brass band enthusiasts who had played in Salvation Army and other brass bands in Canada and England. This band is a unique ensemble in south and central Manitoba. Because members of this band come from a number of communities in south and central Manitoba, the band derived its name from this large region that was formerly known as Rupertsland.
The Rupertsland Brass Band rehearses Tuesday nights at Vincent Massey Collegiate in the Pembina Trails School Division and performs at events both in Winnipeg and elsewhere in Southern Manitoba. The ensemble performs annually at the Prairie Brass Band Festival which occurs in a different host city every year. Previous festivals have taken place in Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Regina. This year's festival will be held in Brandon, MB on Nov. 1, 2008.
Graham Bruce - Conductor
At six years old, Graham was given his first cornet and began to play in Salvation Army Bands in England. Later, he moved onto euphonium and played with the Yorkshire Brass, The National Youth Brass of Great Britain and the City of London Brass.
Graham holds degrees from the University of London, England and a Masters degree from the University of Manitoba. He has taught elementary, junior high, high school and university students as well as adults in England, France, Newfoundland and Manitoba.
Graham's arrangements for brass band include A Festival Prelude; A Yorkshire Ballad; Salvation Is Created; and Gallop for Brass Band.
Graham is currently Assistant Superintendent with Pembina Trails School Division in Winnipeg.
