Rusika is a band in which NATZ (Vo., Gu.) represents his life. The
sound is a unique combination of Japanese rock, punk, pop, and ballads sung in Japanese. His music is mainly influenced Japanese pop and rock, but he
also loves to listen to 80's metal. His broad musical preferences
affect positively on his music. RUSIKA is from "???--rushika)." The word is not actual Japanese, but NATZ likes the sound and meaning, "the flow of the poem and music". NATZ wishes RUSIKA's music flows to your heart, and provoke the images naturally as well as to keep a creative mind and musicianship.
NATZ started his music career as a guitarist since 1994 in Saitama,
Japan, in a band called LUPPY. By 1999, the band had steadily got
attention among high-school students, and they fill the venues with
their audience. However, all members had to be separated to go to
universities throughout Japan, except for NATZ . In 2002, NATZ decided
to go study at community college in Palm Desert, the U.S. His music
career stopped for 2 years as he concentrated to learn English. By
then, NATZ read many pieces of classical Japanese literature and felt
that he love the sound and structure of Japanese.
One day, NATZ went to a coffee shop, and saw many solo musicians at
an open-mic night. He was inspired to continue a music career as a
soloist. Also, he was impressed by both British and American poets in
the poetry class at his college. He believed that American and other
international people can understand poetic expression even if it is
written in a foreign language because he had long been influenced by
foreign poets. Since then, NATZ has excelled at making Japanese songs
in the U.S.
In 2005, NATZ moved to Los Angeles and noticed the J-rock movement
among younger generations, and saw how it is becoming national and
international movement. Rusika was formed and named in December 2006
by NATZ in order to establish the growing interest of Japanese music
in America and encourage local Jrock acts. Their live concerts have
been getting attention due to their energetic, powerful and catchy
melodies, as well as audience participation. The music is already free
of boundaries, so any kind of person can enjoy the sound and live
performance. NATZ is also a member of promoters who hold club events
where people can enjoy any genre of Japanese modern music. He is going
to tour America to communicate with people through Japanese music.
