I don't really have a band right now, per-se. I'm just using this page to give a little exposure to my songs. Players and singers on some of these tunes include: Charlie Judge--Keys and engineering/production on newer fish n grits stuff
David Mead--harmonies on Raggedy Ann
Tommy Williams--drums/percussion and harmonies, and lots of great big laughs Jake Aiken played bass with the Buzzbees for a while, and did a great job. He also played on several of the cuts I feature here.
Francie Dayton was the first one to cut the song that brought me back from Seattle, called Ordinary World. I wrote it one night when the hook got me out of bed, and drove all around town working it out. Most of it was composed in a Waffle House... Francie is a terrific singer, and she did harmonies on lots of this stuff and sang with us as the Buzzbees.
Steve Ebe played drums for us for a while but we were never lucky enough to capture him on tape Peter Hyrka only played mandolin on "Walkin' with the Lord," as I made the huge faux pas of overdubbing dobro on those sessions solo instead of getting Pete's wonderful fiddle playing on there at the same time. Two unfretted instruments apparently can't be done at separate times and be in sweet tune. Big mistake... Tom Bukovac also did several shows with the Buzzbees--he is the ultimate guitarist and a pretty fair hand at pool... Anthony DelaMarchina, principal cellist (at the time) of the Nashville symphony played the cello .. the World. I was so lucky to get him. I met him at Jack's when he played with my old friend Paul Sanderson. I also had the great good fortune to have Billy Joel Piano Man-producer Michael Stewart do some mixes for the Buzzbee Love project. They came out beautiful!
Randy Perkins (Dignus)--harmonies on "black rag"
Kurt Carrick--bass, harmonies on many cuts--true Buzzbee and original bassist for Hayseed Dixie
Misty Carrick- Kurt's lovely wife and most excellent purveyor of harmonies
Ric Emrich--organ on merry christmas
Scott Neubert--lap steel and dobro--
Mike Radovsky--drums and kibosh on a couple cuts
Brett Bryant--organ
Mike Daly--lap steel, dobro, steel guitar- another founding member of Hayseed Dixie Brad Stine--Brad and I went to MTSU together a hundred years ago, and have been writing together off and on ever since. He does the vocals on most of the newer fish n grits stuff...
Joanna Cotten-- up and coming Warner Bros. artist singing the high harmony on "What would it take", and lead on several demos Brad Stine and I did. If you hear a lead vocal that doesn't sound like me, it's probably Brad, Francie or Joanna... My old buddy Willie Smith also did some harmony vocalizing, though I can't remember which songs...
John Wheeler--drums,organ,piano, fiddle, ice-pick-in-your-forehead-kuntry-guitar on "empty beer can"--engineered some cuts--awesome guru of recording techniques and fearless leader of Hayseed-Dixie.
Last but certainly not least, Rusty Horn--almost all guitars, lead and harmony vocals, all arrangements, drums/bass many cuts, wrote or co-wrote all songs...
Here's a video shot backstage at the first show by Hayseed-Dixie. This was the last night we were called the original name, "AC/Dixie." It seemed Elektra was going to sue us...
If you'd like to purchase a copy of the first Hayseed Dixie record, and by all means PLEASE DO, you can do so here.
Influences
I'm finding myself rather heavily influenced by one Georgia Seay Asbury, soon to be Georgia Horn, and that's a good thing. Here are a few dozen pictures of her...

I like stuff that's good. Even opera. Even rap. Even friggin' POLKA. I state those first because I must admit to having found very little in those genres that met my standard of "good." I loved the Beatles first, and nobody else has ever pushed them from their perch. I also loved the Monkees, so my taste could be somewhat suspect. I loved the Eagles, the Who, some of Led Zeppelin, some of Yes, some of Alan Holdsworth, some of Frank Zappa, some of AC/DC, and I really enjoy bluegrass. Just about any good bluegrass. I love James Taylor. I love sting/the police, ADORE ZZTop, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, hate Yngwie Malmsteen and any and every eddie van halen clone guitarist. I really love EVH, though. I love Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore/Deep Purple, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, Poco, America, Dan Fogelberg, Jim Croce, John Denver, Elton John, Boston, Kansas, Some Styx, actually bought the Partridge family album and the Osmond brothers album. Not proud of it, but it happened. I can't change who I am. And I was like 10, after all... I seriously dug the James Gang. If you've never heard "walk away" really loud, you haven't lived. It was the first rock song I ever liked. My brother turned me on to alot of great stuff. Really loved B.J. Thomas, love Russ Taff, The Imperials, Michael W. Smith, Point of Grace, Switchfoot, love good gospel quartets like the Gaithers. The curly haired dude who used to do the tenor part with them is amazing. I seriously dig Imogen Heap, Starfield and Barlow Girl, and that's about all I can think of for now. My dad sang in barbershop quartets when I was a baby and we still do it when we get together as a family. We stink, but it's fun.
Here's an actual performance video of the first song from that same Exit/In Nashville show--"Highway to Hell..."
Please enjoy some artsy fartsy pix below...

Sounds Like
shit, but it's not like I'm getting paid very much for it... You can hear alot of Southern Rock, 60s, 70s radio rock and even a little Johnnie Denver... I steal from everybody that I like!
Hi! My name is Rusty Horn. My parents did that to me. I'm a founding member of Hayseed-Dixie, and I suppose that's the only thing I've ever done that anyone might have heard of. We did bluegrass covers of AC/DC, recorded basically as a joke, and the next thing we knew we were on every morning radio show in America. You gotta love this country. Most of the songs I feature on this page are done in my home studio, (at least overdubs and mixes) and I am accepting clients to come to my place and record demos, by the way. I play bass, drums, and guitar, and I sing lead as well as harmony vocals. I can help you finish your songs, and get them arranged into a palatable format if you like. I have decent-sounding mics, pres, keys, amps, drums, and guitars as well: I'm running Sonar 6 through a 3GHz PC with Focusrite Saffire Pro pres. I have Roland digital drums and a PRS guitar, an Axis (Ernie Ball) tele with a VOX AC-15 and a pedal board with lots of kind and loving gizmos. I have a 5-string Spector bass with a fender amp, but I usually go direct via a berenger DI. Bring your own keyboardist. I also can transfer vinyl records, cassettes and videotapes into digital form and burn it to CD or DVD, or upload it to your Myspace page or whatever you want done with it. I also fix computers, often remotely from here. Please feel free to give me a shout at 615-834-9607 or email me at rusty.horn@hotmail.com if you want to do bidness...
