Roughtmute Ska/Punk band from Scotland, Falkirk. Review:
Feels Like Eatin a Jellyfish EP Review!!!
" Roughmute.
'Feels Like Eatin A Jellyfish' EP
Label - Unsigned
Roughmute are quite fucking brilliant, sir!
I've never wrote this in a review before because it always seems so insincere and flippant but…..this is my new favourite band! That accolade may now be the curse of their career, though I very much doubt it, or I might regret writing it in a few weeks time, but the point here is that this band have made a record that is worthy of me sticking my neck out and saying that! If the punk/skacore genre is your scene then get yourselves familiarised with this lot now!
Roughmute fluctuate between 100mph hardcore mayhem and the subtle yet instantly recognised jauntiness that Ska cloaked itself with. They've judged it well though and that becomes obvious on opening track ' Captain Cool'. The second song 'Poondalita' is excellent by anyone's standards! It's here that they blend two genres so amazingly well then further enhance the songs potential by gifting it with a chorus so anthemic it must surely be the favoured drunken chant upon the streets at chucking out time? 'The Choice' has harnessed the hardcore sound slightly, but you can still feel it straining at the leash. The Ska beat controls this song though and again it all sounds flawless and tight.
Penultimate track 'Stand Up And Fight' is inspired and it's positioning on this record is spot on because it gifts last song 'DSFT' with nothing more to do but remind you what a good time you had listening to this EP. Check Roughmute out and grab a copy of this record, it'll hold your attention for ages and you'll tell your mates. Guaranteed!
