On June 20th we will be celebrating the 2009 Summer Solstice at Ruta Maya with Plump (Houston,TX). The official time when the solstice begins is on June 21, 2009 at 1:45 A.M.
The Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year. As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky. Most celebrations of the first day of summer have dancing & bonfires to help increase the sun's energy.
In honor of the Solstice, a sacred fire with lights and surprises we will be lit and were going stay up all night to welcome the dawn.
