Ruth's Interests
General
Besides the stuff listed under music, films etc?... Graphic novels & comics, spending time with friends, improving my web skills, collecting Sci-Fi films, especially classics & B movies, going to gigs, computer games.
I did cheat on making this page. I used pimp-my-profile.com which is the best generator site I've found so far- in case you're looking for one.

Political Interests
I'm an active member of theLiberal Democrats and hope to take that much further some day. Here's some of the political stuff that gets me motivated to want to do something about it.
Local: Social justice, incresing Southampton's international profile, city centre residents parking, healthy living, the environment, making Southampton a safer city, tackling homelessness, promoting first time buyer initiatives, student welfare, making sure that none are left behind.
National: Fair Trade, The Envionment, Social Justice, Reducing homelessness, Reducing re-offending for prison leavers, reducing social inequality, adequate funding for core public services, opposing id cards, protecting civil liberties, devolution, involvement in Europe, globalisation & economics.
Music
Too many to name, but here's a selection of those I think EVERYONE should be checking out. As you can see, my tastes are somewhat... varied.
The Dark Poets I actually did samples on several of their tunes. Big congrats to the guys (and girl) on finally getting signed to Some Bizarre. It's about time. Waiting with baited breath now, to see what happens next!
Aisth Blissed out floaty female vox, mellow breaks and chilled electronica. I discovered this laydee when surfing the net a while back. She's managed to stay on many of my media player playlists ever since.
BRMC These guys are awesome. They've recieved nowhere near the attention they deserve. Love it. Keep it comiong guys.
Kosheen I first heard these guys live - almost by accident - at a Student Radio conference in 2001. Having previously been sceptical about drum 'n' bass, even so, I heard the phrase 'live band' and gravitated magnetically towards the gig. Having been simply blown away by the live show, and particularly impressed with fantastic performance of their front-laydee, I've kept a keen eye out for them ever since. I since concluded that SOME d 'n' b is awesome... especially when its live!
Joan Baez One of my favourite female vocalists. Having once travelled across Kansas, where you can see nothing but corn for miles, and get nothing on the radio but country and western, I thought I was put off for life. This one of the major exceptions to that rule. She may choose to sing country most of the time, but her voice is simply phenominal... and so her genritic choices, I can forgive.
Martyn Joseph Great acoustic singer songwriter. Plays the Brook in Southampton every year. I always try to go - although its expensive as local gigs go, it's well worth it. Edgy, political, lyrically excellent and musically effortless. My current favourite song is 'How did we end up here' from his latest album.
Movies
There's so many films I like I thought I'd list my current personal top 10.
1. Metropolis
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey
3. Return of the Jedi
4. The Wicker Man
5. A Clockwork Orange
6. Ghost in the Shell & Ghost in the Shell: Innocence
7. Fight Club
8. Bad Boy Bubby
9. The Shawshank Redemption
10. Sin City
Television
Loved Firefly. The Simpsons, Family Guy, Smallville, Buffy
Books
Sandman and more or less anything Gaiman. Good Omens is an old fave.
V for Vendetta
100 Bullets, Preacher, Watchmen
Heroes
"A hero is someone who understands.. the responsibility that comes with his freedom." Bob Dylon
I guess significant people who've made a huge difference to people's lives - in a positive way. Churchill - a mad genius if ever there was one I reckon. Martin Luther King - Coming from a religious family background, I find it frustrating that so few people allow religion to be their "opium", rather than letting it motivate them towards trying to bring about positive change such as that which Luther King made such a huge impact on. As a woman hoping to succeed in politics, I risk stereotyping to say so, but I will admit it: Thatcher. I don't agree with much of her politics, I admire her vision and dedication. She stuck to her guns and let nothing stand in her way.
Have previously done some vocal samples for the Dark Poets (probably the music you're listening to now- the backing vox is me). Would love the chance to do some more of that.

About me: ..
I live in Islington, London and have quite a range of interests. I'm 5ft tall with dark hair and brown eyes. I generally talk too much- but usually not about what's really on my mind. I tend to take in and absorb much more than you think I do. I'm into politics because I want to change things for the better, because I actually care about the world and people around me and also because I want to leave my mark. I'm passionate but also very pragmatic. I think on a macro scale so tend to find details harder to appreciate. I'm very open and giving... which sometimes means I get walked over. I'm older than my years, though I look younger. I don't have as much self confidence as I often appear to- though usually I can bluff my way through most things. I hate chick flicks, inequality, injustice, fish, nuts and no people. I love sci-fi films, new things, the colour blue, my new camera, live music, motorbikes and TVR Chimeras.
For my day job, I work for MessageSpace. We provide advertising across the UK's biggest political blogs and websites. Stuff like Guido Fawkes, Iain Dale, LabourHome, LibDem Voice and Political Betting.
I'm involved with a fantastic project called Giving a Click. I'm supporting on the marketing front. Its a not-for-profit organisation. We're trying to create a bit of an online hub for charities and charity minded type people. An alternative meeting space for people that want to make a difference in this world. We're also putting on events every so often. Our next event is our Summer Festival, at the Synergy Centre in Camberwell on the 26th July. Would be amazing to see you there.
Not so long ago, I did some vocal samples (yes, singing) for a good friend- James from the
Dark Poets. What they turned into would be the track you can probably hear playing on my profile right now... except that they took that track down... so I've had to post a different one up now. Grrr! Ah well, you can get the idea. (They seem to seep into quite a few
Dark Poets tunes). Anyway, do take a look at the
Dark Poets website. The awesome video on my page was produced a gentleman called Alex Chandon, featuring music also from the Dark Poets.
Hello Ruth. Thanks very much for adding us. We very much hope you enjoy the tunes. Let us know what you think. We've got some gigs lined up for July and August that we'll be announcing as soon as all the details are confirmed. All the best.
Have been feeling a tad guilty of late for negelcting our pals on myspace - things have been pretty darn busy this end what with the album release and beginning writing and recording a new album (plus trying to keep the wolf from the door - yeah - we're typical skint indie musos on that front) However - things this side of the screen are good and looking positive...I just hope the case is the same on your side of the screen. We have a couple of new tracks on the jukebox - including a mix we did for fellow labelmate rev spook - if you get a chance - either check it out on our myspace page...or at www. myspace. com/heartfuct
Hope things are well with you and the cosmic forces of whatever guides the universe are currently running in your favour - basically just thought we'd drop by and say 'ello'.
Keep in touch and keep us in the loop!
Much love
Sarah and James
