They are “not the trite sort of love songs that the pop market is saturated with today” says Misti from 93.1 FM WNOU Indianapolis. Ryan Cook spent much of his teenage years seeking out cafes and local rock clubs in Chicago and northwest Indiana, eager to perform his songs that explore the boundaries of today’s popular melodies. His songs focus on the strife modern romance, its better days, and poignant self-examination . His music can be described as encompassing the styles of modern rock and soulful folk-blues while maintaining accessible, catchy melodies and insightful lyrics.
Though this talented singer/songwriter/guitarist had been writing songs since the age of 15, it was not until the fall of 2003 that Ryan released his first album Bonfire . Shortly after its release, he became a regular act on the live music scene in Bloomington, IN while attending Indiana University. During his college years, Ryan made a name for himself performing at venues such as the historic Bluebird Nightclub and Buskirk-Chumley Theater in Bloomington, acquiring devoted fans that are now spread across the midwest. Since then, Ryan has maintained a heavy presence within the Indiana music scene, performing weekly all around the state and neighboring areas. In 2005, he formed the band Griffy Rhodes. After touring Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, the band released their first album Somthing Like The Truth in 2006. They have since then disbanded, but Ryan has sustained himself as a solo artist, performing weekly on the Indianapolis music circuit and surrounding areas.
Since his first release, Ryan has independently sold over 2000 copies of Bonfire and Something Like the Truth. He has been a prominent artist on the Indianapolis scene for over four years, having opened for established artists such as Rich Hardesty, Matt Wertz, and Corey Smith, booking over 100 shows a year.
