With a sound that can be described as "melodic twang-pop and Americana in the vein of Whiskeytown, Son Volt, and Tom Petty" (Charleston City Paper), Ryan Bailey and Cumberland Belle are beginning to make waves on the lowcountry SC music scene. The band has shared the stage with such notable southeast acts as Tent Revival, Mark Bryan (of Hootie and the Blowfish), and Danielle Howle, a fixture on the South Carolina music scene for years, and the track "Still Alive" was recently featured on "Charleston Sound Presents: I Got Music," a compilation CD featuring 11 Charleston acts including Graham Worley and Mac Leaphart, among others. The track is described by City Paper writer T. Ballard Lesemann as "an acoustic guitar-based ballad in 6/8 time with plenty of atmospheric effect from harmonica, tambourine, and reverby guitar fades. Bailey's deep-toned singing voice and mellow vibrato comes through crystal-clear." The compilation is available on itunes and in various Charleston retail stores. Jon Lotterhos of Indie Sunday Photography described the band's set at the CD release (at Charleston's acclaimed Pour House venue), saying "This was a very mature band that has lots of talent and a very good future ahead of them. Ryan Bailey knows what he wants in his sound, and with Cumberland Belle they give Ryan just what he needs." With such positive reception to the band's songs and live shows, a bright future is sure to lie ahead.
