I’m a generally agreeable singing/songwriting Canadian who performs what has been called "thoughtful acoustic pop".
Apart from performing and promoting my solo material, I also front the Manchester-based Moody Pop band Sloganeer.
In 2006 I released my independently recorded CD "felt". Some very nice people bought my CD and nice things were said about it. Though my live act has at times consisted of a revolving-door-style band of musicians, at its core it’s been me and the fantastic Mike Turner on accordion (and other keys.)
Gossip, rumours and hearsay:
"Just as we were getting bored of male singer-songwriters in Manchester along comes Ryan Lamey who single handedly makes the careers of Stephen Fretwell and Liam Frost pretty redundant. Born and raised in Canada he only recently moved over to Manchester (he calls himself a Mancunadian) his style is reminiscent of Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley only filtered through a huge pop filter. We’re hoping that Ryan will duet with Karima Francis for a few tracks as these two really are the only singer songwriters you should be listening to at the moment." - Designer Magazine - Manchester, June ’07
"As a live performer, Lamey is fully engaged with his audience and the emotions evokes from the stage. The energy stirs below the surface – not the melancholy of a broken heart, but the spent feeling after you’ve poured your heart out, after you’ve broken the plates over the broken promises, after you’ve kicked your lover out; not a sadness, but catharsis, rich with a satisfaction lined with longing and loneliness." - Andrew Titus, UNB Arts Centre - Fredericton, May ’06
