hey guys
My names ryan, Im a songwriter currently based in the lovely city of Melbourne Australia. Thank you greatly for stumbling onto my music page, drop me comment and we can become interweb buddies. I grew up in the country town of murwillumbah in northern NSW, which is a great town, full of colourful characters... and ex girlfriends, heading home always involves several nights out drinking slightly too much and is usually a shambles of sorts, but always involves plenty of laughs. I'm at the very early stages of my career, which involves being very very poor and playing a lot of gigs, some of which are great, and some are not so enjoyable - for instance.. ive played in the middle of skilled stadium "home of the Gold Coast Titans" twice to about 15,000 people each time, and ive played gigs the following week to nobody but the bar staff, also! ive performed at some really cool festivals in QLD and NSW, even the woodford folk festival, and shared the bill with some fantastic artists, but I also play shows to crowds that would be far happier if i just belted out "Kay san" or "brown eyed girl". yep,,, its tough, its a very slow and un-encouraging road, but i don't do it to be a rock star, i write because its a part of my makeup, so if we ever meet,, please don't ask me why i don't go on idol :-) I warn you now ill probably look back at you with a very blank unimpressed look on my face haha
Im 23 years old, since high school i completed a music degree and have been writing and performing all over, you can read more about me below or watch some of my videos here on my page. I have many new songs and i continue writing more and more, mostly inspired from Melbourne at the moment. ill keep putting new stuff and as i record it, so be sure to keep coming back :-)
peace!
ryan
Naturally composing free flowing material which touches the soul and inadvertently makes you smile is 22 year old Ryan Murphy’s passion and has been his greatest asset in achieving accolades from his musical peers.
After what can only be described as a whirlwind last few years since transcending to his instrument of choice - the guitar, Ryan has managed to successfully complete the exclusive Queensland Conservatorium’s bachelor of popular music degree. Thus allowing him study and hone his craft, whilst providing the opportunity to produce a high quality six track EP. The EP titled “Read My Mind” has gained extensive recognition in music publications and street press such as Rave and Scene Magazines with reviews stating “Perhaps most impressive, is the super smooth ‘hold onto’, which possesses a quality of songwriting and arrangement well beyond Murphy’s young years.” And followed by “Throughout his debut EP ‘read my mind’ the lyrics are strong and it all seems to point to bright things in the future for this very talented artist.”
This recognition of Ryan’s material continues, with Thomas Miller (described as a U.S. tastemaker and discoverer of unexposed acoustic talent) took such a shine to it that he included it in rotation on his radio program the ‘Thomas Miller Show’, California. Further radio has continued with a 40 minute performance and interview on ABC’s Coast FM and interview on Jetstar Radio aired on all Jetstar flights. The success and recognition has already begun for Ryan by being awarded a finals birth in the APRA – National Songwriting & PDA awards, Gold Coast Music Industry Peoples Choice Award and honorary membership to the Gold Coast Music Industry Assoc.
Major performance venues followed such as repeat requests to perform in front of 20,000 plus crowds for pre-game entertainment at the Gold Coast Titans, a main slot at The Peace Festival’s Peace Wave Concert (Headlined by The Boat People) and Woodford Folk Festival 2008/09 and Brisbanes own Greenfest (with the likes of Tame Impala) Reassuringly signalling Ryan’s songwriting ability is of a high standard, especially to be performing alongside inspirational artists such as Lior, Jeff Lang, Josh Pyke, the Boat People and Ash Grunwald to name a few.
Ryan’s performance recognition continues with shows at Brisbane’s coverted music nite spot “The Zoo” and the elevation to headline act at “The Supper Club” Sydney, for what was his first inner city show. Finally Ryan completed an extremely successful EP launch tour of Mullumbimby and Uki late March and an East Coast tour encompassing Sydney to the Sunshine Coast in April 2009. Ryan continues explore the road and his surroundings with a move to Melbourne where he is starting to build inroads and a coverted fanbase!
“I've done loads of gigs over the past few years, I don't get as nervous up on stage as I did before, performing just seems like a part of my life now. I try to stay as true to myself on stage as possible, there is nothing worse then watching an artist that is trying to be something there not!”

Brisbane outfit Toy Balloon will release their debut album Toy Division on
November 8 through Lofly Records, and to celebrate will perform an east coast
launch tour throughout November.
Formed in 2007, Toy Balloon was
originally a fledgling two-piece made up by Nimai Etheridge’s uniquely melodic
wall-of-sound guitar and Greg Cooper’s beautiful sequenced electronic
compositions. The band have since matured into a four piece featuring Chloe
Cooper (Mr Maps) on key boards and Ben Green on drums.
The album was
recorded and mixed at the Lofly Hangar in Brisbane, a DIY performance space that
Toy Balloon has been an integral part of creating. Fostering emerging artists
and left-of-centre music, the Hangar acts as a performance space, recording
studio, and meeting place; and has resulted in a record with a rich, layered
sound reminiscent of New Order, Mogwai, Boards of Canada, and LCD
Soundsystem.
