At the age of twenty-five, Ryan Reid left the indie rock scene of New York and made his way back to Oklahoma, looking for what he says he felt he must have forgotten along the way. “I came back home to remember; remember not only who I am but why I am. I think that’s a reminder we can all use every once in a while.”
With this reminder close to heart Reid, now twenty-seven, will release his debut solo EP titled “Home” in the Summer of 2008. The project was recorded in Oklahoma’s own Flatland Studios under the direction of engineer Tony Pearce.
The five song collection is a stripped down, bare essential acoustic soundtrack telling the stories of Ryan’s bleeding heart. “It’s my life put to music. Who knows, maybe along the way people will find truths of their own in it. One of the best parts about music is that it can never necessarily belong to just one person. I mean once I sing a song and someone hears it, the song isn’t just mine anymore, it belongs to anyone and everyone who happens upon it and its meaning now becomes their own, to do with as they please and to take from it whatever they want.”
Reid, patiently awaiting the 2008 release of “Home”, has already peaked the interest of a grassroots local and national fan base through his live performances. Reid is able to connect with every audience with his humble, sometimes seemingly shy but still somehow confident character, combined with his soulful voice, poetic lyrics and passionate delivery. Drawing influence from artists such as Ray LaMontagne, Jeff Buckley, and Eddie Vedder, Ryan Reid has been able to develop a musical style and voice comparable to no other before him. In his song “My Heart”, Reid bares his soul; captivating listeners with his hypnotic and soothing vocal line, leaving his audience suspended in time, hanging on every word. In the title track of Reid’s upcoming EP “Home” he takes each individual on a poetic journey searching for answers, allowing his music to draw you in while his passion and vocal style leave you fulfilled, simultaneously longing for more. “A Modern Day Tragedy”, “Tired”, and “Broken Dreams” complete the EP, portraying the innermost feelings of Reid’s heart, mind, and soul. “These songs are who I am, so when you see me play you really are seeing me; the constantly searching, sometimes ridiculous, hopelessly romantic me.”
As the release date approaches, Ryan is gearing up for his upcoming tour dates, looking ahead, eagerly anticipating this journey called life, and forever remembering the lessons and experiences of “Home”.
