"I heard your piece Ryan and it is beautiful. You have a great approach to the instrument and sound. I like the combination of simplicity and depth. This is kind of what it's all about for me." Dominic Miller www.dominicmiller.com
”Musicians are often referred to as ‘artists’, but artists are few. Ryan is much more than a guitarist, he is an artist.
Ryan’s ability is outstanding and this allows him to effortlessly focus on what really matters in a band. . . making great music as a team.
As a drummer, I have especially enjoyed working with Ryan as his timing and grooves are always snappy and accurate. Guitarists sometimes isolate themselves from the rhythm section, but Ryan is always fully aware of the whole. He locks in and flows naturally with the dynamics, then taking the lead, launches into “wow, how’s he doing that?!” territory.
As a recording engineer, I appreciate Ryan’s professionalism, maturity and intelligence. His technique is constantly pushing new limits and he knows how to get the best out of his gear. There are no problems, issues or ego with Ryan. He is confident yet humble and so easy to get along with.” Al Hodgson
"Real player, real musician, real feel, star of the future" Marcus Flynn www.marcusflynn.com
"Ryan has a wonderful feel, a natural sense of dynamics and taste to his playing. Music always comes first before flash show-off chops. It is a pleasure to play with such a naturally talented musician." Danny Gonzalez www.suedealien.moonfruit.com
"I've had the great pleasure of working with Ryan in a number of musical projects, ranging from live, studio & acoustic sessions. I have been extremely impressed with both Ryan's versatility, professionalism & ability in excelling in so many musical genres. In addition to this he is an extremely pleasant person who's fun to work with. I'm sure he'll be a name to look out for in the future" Nick Reiber-Hodgson www.myspace.com/nickreiberhodgson
My name is Ryan Robinson, and I am a session guitarist based in Oxford, UK, known mainly for my work with the bands Electrichead, Off The Record, Silence and Echoes, as well as my own solo work.
I have experience playing in a wide variety of genres and styles including rock, funk, blues, jazz, and soul among many others. I am available for various types of session work, both live and recorded, always working with professionalism and enthusiasm.
Currently, I am studying the BMus degree at Guitar-X (part of Tech Music Schools, London College of Music), playing live regularly with a number of bands, recording both my own and collaborative material with other musicians, and playing sessions in the Oxfordshire area.
Biography:
It wasn't until age eleven that Ryan developed a serious interest in music, inspired by hearing the talkbox in the Bon Jovi classic "Livin' on A Prayer". After discovering the talkbox was used in conjunction with the electric guitar, and convincing his parents that his interest was serious, Ryan received his first electric guitar for Christmas of the same year.
After taking a number of guitar lessons it became apparent that Ryan's strengths were in working out music by ear, and so he decided to continue his studies self-taught. Much of his teenage years would be spent working out the songs of his favourite bands, paying meticulous attention to replicating the tone and technique of his favourite guitarists, notably Matt Bellamy of Muse and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. He also soon began writing his own material, forming and playing in bands with his school friends, obsessively practising during almost every lunch hour.
After completing secondary school education in 2005, Ryan studied the BTEC National Diploma in Music at Oxford College of Further Education. It was there that he first began harbouring ambitions of becoming a session guitarist, taking to studying a wide variety of musical genres and styles. Ryan completed the course in the summer of 2007, becoming the first student to be awarded a triple distinction grade.
Immediately after completing the course, on his gap year, Ryan was approached to join local rock covers outfit Electrichead, an offer which he accepted with no hesitation. Through his playing with the band he soon made a name for himself as a versatile guitarist on the local music scene, earning opportunities to play with other bands, standing in for other guitarists, and gaining vital live playing experience as a session player.
It was also during his gap year period that Ryan worked as part-time apprentice to luthier and technician Steve Kendall, learning valuable skills in the maintenence, construction and repair of electric, acoustic and bass guitars.
Currently, Ryan is studying the BMus degree at Tech Music Schools (London College of Music) but continues to live in Oxford, gigging regularly with Electrichead, Off The Record and a number of different bands. He also records original material as a solo artist, with Silence and Echoes, and as a session player for local producers and musicians.
