Played basketball in high school and stayed a huge fan. Being very social Ryan would be the life of any party he showed up at. Liked beer with buddies and some sort of football video gaming that I don't get.
Music
He was once on VH1 My Generation and kicked some butt on that show. He is a data bank of all kinds of music so it's hard to pinpoint one type or even his favorites. He listened to a lot of rap growing up but his horizons expanded to reggae, jazz, alternative, and country amoung other genres.
Movies
"Braveheart" and "The Matrix" were at the top of the list of his favorites along with "Men In Black" and "The Blues Brothers". A lesser known movie that was one of his favorites was "The Mighty". Movies were a passion for Ryan. I believe he would have made a couple of good movies himself by now if he hadn't fallen.
Television
He watches TV now and I know he enjoys most of what we watch but I confess I have a large say in what he watches. Since he's happy with such a variety, I choose things I think he'll like, especially American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, and most anything on Comedy Central. He used to have Sports Center on all the time and his caregivers are all sports fans too so that's on a lot of the time. He still likes sporting events but it's harder for him to follow the teams and the scores so in my opinion he would rather watch movies on TV.
Books
Ryan read a lot in the last years before the accident on the subject of Bible prophecy. He enjoyed the Left Behind Series a lot. He can read now but not books. Too many words on a page can be confusing. But no word is too difficult for him to read and he understands the meaning of any word if he had known it before the accident. His language skills are very good.
Ryan is my son. I'm writing this for his foundation, Ryan's Reach. But you should know something about Ryan. He grew up in Irvine and went to Irvine High School. He graduated from Pepperdine University, got engaged and was a production assistant at the Will and Grace TV show. Then he had a terrible fall. He went to the roof of his apartment building, stepped on a skylightit broke and he fell through it three stories to concrete. It's been 6 1/2 years since the day he fell. It's a miracle he survived, came out of his coma, and is still progressing in his recovery. Besides the prayers of so many friends and family and excellent medical intervention, Ryan is still making gains due to constant rehab. Ryan's family started Ryan's Reach to raise money to help other people going through the trauma of brain injury. We want Ryan's friends to visit this page and be aware of the Ryan's Reach events they may want to come out and support in honor of their friend, Ryan Corbin.
Who I'd like to meet: I can't speak for Ryan now, but before his accident I'm sure he would have wanted to meet Steven Spielberg, Hiedi Klum and Will Smith. He was a fan of Creed and Gwen Stephani, so I'm sure he'd like to meet them. He also was a student of Bible prophecy and I feel sure he would have liked to sit down with Hal Lindsay to discuss that subject.
