BooksBasically books about filmmaking, and scripts. Scripts by Tarantino, the Coens, etc. Oh, and when I have time, anything by Clive Barker.
HeroesPeople making good movies without lots of budget/support/etc. The best example would be Lloyd Kaufman (the granddaddy of indy film). Other good examples are Low Budget Productions' Chris Seaver, EDP's Scott Phillips, CR Production's Billy Garberina, and anyone that makes an entertaining, watchable film for under $50k!

About me:

The focus of this profile is reviewing low- and no-budget films from all over the world. If you have an indy film that you would like a review written about, let's talk. ryan@sb-films.com send me a screener and I'll write about it. I won't guarantee that I'll like your film, but I will guarantee that I'll watch and honestly review your film. I have been on an extended hiatus from writing reviews, but I INTEND to cut that shit out and get my ass in gear writing about flicks again. So all you people who sent me movies a long time ago, I will get to them (relatively) soon, I swear!

All of the reviews / interviews are above in the "blog" section of this profile. If you enjoy reading these blogs / interviews, please subscribe to my blog! That way you'll get a notice whenever I've posted a new review or interview!

Here's some really about me:

My name's Ryan and I'm just your average renaissance man... I write (short stories, screenplays, etc.), I make movies (Time Has Come the Film, Nacht van de Duivel DVD Speler, After the End and the upcoming Defective Man!check it out!), I used to write alot of music (under the name SCG among others, and also as gonzorealism with the Styxx), etc. I used to draw alot and write poetry as well, but not so much anymore.

I'm very happily married and have been for nearly 8 years! I live in the not-so-bad city of Albuquerque, NM, where the film scene is seriously growing. I am also trying my hardest to get into bigger budget flicks. I worked on a slasher flick shot here in ABQ that was titled "Just Buried" However, due to major changes by the producer, that flick is now called "Wedding Slashers." Personally, I think "Just Buried" was a lot better, but what do I know? "Wedding Slashers" is available nationwide on DVD. I also was the Assistant Director of Scott's latest flick, Gimme Skelter. It will be available for sale very, VERY soon from Burning Paradise Entertainment. Go to Exhilarated Despair Productions (www.edpmovies.com) to be one of the first people to pre-order it. The first 67 orders will be signed by Gunnar "The ORIGINAL Leatherface" Hansen! Here's the trailer:

Who I'd like to meet:
I've met alot of the people I want to meet, but right now the list would be: Maynard Keegan, Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, Chris Cunningham, Richard D. James, DJ Shadow, James Gunn, and anyone who wants to spend a few grand on an independent film...

SAVE THE ORIGINAL POSTER ARTWORK FOR EASTER BUNNY, KILL! KILL!
Everyone, please go to myspace.com/underthebedfilms and let them know what an abomination the new artwork is.

The original art captured the spirit and attitude of the film. The new dvd cover looks like someone sloppily zeroxed some stills from the film, there is no heart or soul.

Just because a film is low budget, it does not mean the box has to look cheap.

We gave the distributers an ORIGINAL concept and they are dropping the ball.

Please, Please, leave a message on their page, and let them know that real discerning horror aficionados appreciate originality, and not this hackneyed mess they call a dvd cover.

Thanks for the support
