"Ryan Tennis is highly entertaining, a great songwriter and has a great voice. He reacts fabulously with the crowd, he's a nice guy, and is set apart by his ability to get a laugh just
as easily as a tear."
- Keith Armitage, Songwriters Live, Sydney Australia
“Ryan Tennis' songwriting is inspired by a young heart, an old soul, and a passion for music. We've had the pleasure of listening to this East Coaster carve his own path in the local San Diego scene. Whether he is playing solo or with his group, One-Way Ticket, he is able to pull the audience in for a great musical trip.”
The charming authenticity of Ryan Tennis' soft-on-the-soul sound leaves the listener with the comfortable feeling of time spent with an old friend. His singable melodies and disarming lyrics have drawn comparisons with Paul Simon, James Taylor and Amos Lee.
Tennis dedicated himself to football until the age of 22. As an undersized lineman, he was a scrappy overachiever whose passionate play won him All-American accolades. The end of his college football career left Tennis with a serious sense of emptiness until he tuned in again to his neglected love of music. Three years later and 30 pounds lighter, he played his first show in San Diego. The same passion that powered his football success now drives his energetic pursuit of music, but despite a Gridiron past, his songs and voice have a sweet honesty that is at once surprising and familiar.
In 2008 Tennis packed up his guitar and took to the road, touring for five months in Australia, Thailand, Bangladesh and Laos. He played popular clubs in Melbourne, ex-pat bars in Bangkok, and wowed a crowd of 2,000 Bangladeshi villagers at a Women's Rights Initiative in Dhaka. A month after returning to the US he moved from San Diego back to his home town of Philadelphia, where he began delving into funk/soul classics like Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers, joining in organic jams and performances on the eclectic Philadelphia music scene, and rediscovering the power of groove. Ryan Tennis plays solo or with a full band, delighting a rapidly-expanding fanbase with shows at venues like the Tin Angel, Fergie's Pub, the Blinkin' Lincoln, and Milkboy.
"Ryan Tennis has what you can't buy and you can't learn; appeal. His voice and songs feel confident, natural and true."
-Scot Sax, Grammy winning songwriter.
"He has a positive, refreshing take and a fresh voice. His songwriting is honestly effective."

"I have seen over 500 acts during my time running this event, and Ryan
Tennis is among the best. He's a great songwriter and has a wonderful voice. He reacts fabulously with the crowd and he's unique in his ability to get a laugh just as easily as a tear."

Hi Ryan! I just viewed the "To the Moon" video and got a little teary eyed. Great lyrics and your voice is very touching. I loved the part where the little ones were chillin' with you at Rittenhouse Square. Too cute! Keep up the awesome tunes!

Well I guess I have to get to Bar 4 next week then. That sounds great. I'm mostly just psyched that they have a piano there! I absolutely hate moving my piano to play 2 songs. Glad to hear your NY trip has been successful.
