The Allied Liberal States of The Dark Forge is a massive, socially progressive, economically powerful, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 62.60 Million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. They enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Social Welfare, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate for the Poor is 3%-7%, the Middle class is 8%-11%, the Rich is 33%-37%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Information Technology and Gold Mining.
Crime suspects are forced to submit to blood testing, citizens are permitted to carry concealed handguns, and people can often be seen driving to work in war-surplus tanks. Punitive tariffs protect local industry, terrorists & criminals are periodically found dead upon altars to assorted deities, and religious organizations are being forced to leave the country or pay income taxes like everybody else. The inheritance tax has recently been abolished, The Dark Forge has returned to the gold standard and space shuttles regularly launch rubbish into space. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Dark Forge's national animal is the Wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar and the euro.
