Welcome to the official SARC Myspace
The Southern Animal Rights Coalition (SARC) is an active animal
rights group based in the south of England.
We actively campaign against all animal abuse. If you live in the south of
England, or anywhere else in the world, and would like to get involved, please
use the form below or email us at info@sarconline.co.uk
and sign up for our email alerts. You will receive action alerts asking you
to email or phone companies involved in animal cruelty, as well as giving other
tips and advise on tackling animal abuse.
Our current campaigns include:

FUR FREE SOUTH
In 2003 the last UK fur farm was closed, following a ban on all fur farming
in the country. Fur is still being imported, and is on sale in many forms
across the UK. We intend to wipe all fur out of the southern region, whilst
working with groups from other areas to ensure we have a national impact.

FOIE GRAS
The production of foie gras has been banned in the UK, due to the cruelty
involved. Ducks and geese are force fed grain via a tube down their throats,
until their livers reach 10 times their natural size. We are campaigning
to end the sale of this cruel dish in our region, as well as working towards
getting it banned in towns across the region. www.sarconline.co.uk/foie

CLOSE DOWN THE PORTSMOUTH GREYHOUND TRACK In mid 2007, SARC launched the campaign to expose the greyhound industry's secret animal abuse and close down the greyhound track in Portsmouth. Last year, over 10000 animals "retired" from the UK greyhound racing industry, it is a sad fact that a large majority of these animals can now not be accounted for. SARC learnt of people who would shoot animals dead for £10.00 so that they were not a burden to their previous owners. Demonstrations against Portsmouth's own part of the industry happen frequently. http://www.sarconline.co.uk/greyhound/

SAVE THE HYPERBARIC GOATS
Every year dozens of goats were being killed in diving tests commissioned by the
Royal Navy. The goats were forced into hyperbaric chambers, where they are
subjected to extreme pressure variations, intended to simulate deep sea
conditions, and induce decompression sickness. For nearly two years SARC fought these tests and eventually the MoD gave in. SARC had won and the remaining goats were free to be more than just a science experiment.

PROSECUTE PORTER
In 2005 SARC exposed a puppy farm in Sussex owned by Phil Porter. When the
RSPCA failed to act, SARC campaigners stepped in and rescued hundreds of
animals, including 18 dogs (2 of which were pregnant), rabbits, rats, cockateils,
hens and doves. Since the raid, we have successfully campaigned to have
Mr. Porter evicted from the site where he had his illegal farm. We are now
campaigning to close down his pet shop. Find out more at www.sarconline.co.uk/porter.
