About me:

It's just all about music for me. I'm always listening to music, doing something with or to music. Here's a little bit why I AM the way I AM. 1st, GOD made me funky.
My Dad (love you Pops!) was ALWAYS playing music when I was coming up. He played mostly the Soul and R&B that was popular in the 60's, 70's and 80's: Motown, O'Jays, Rick James, Gladys, Aretha, EWF, Quincy Jones, Chic, ya know... Pops ain't really play too much Rock, Jazz, Funk, James, Jimi, P Funk. But he knew the GROOVE. He taught me the GROOVE.
I'd spend hours reading the covers of his LP's. He'd take me shopping with him for records at Smith's and The Record Bar in the Plaza; Sound Warehouse on Chef (yeah, throwback nukka).
In 1979 everything changed. Everything was freakin turned upside down by a sound that touched way down in my soul. I had been listening to my Dad's music for so long, this sh!t right here was for ME g0ddammit! The Sugar Hill Gang turned me all the way on with "Rapper's Delight". This was the first of my Epiphanies. Hip Hop became my body. My first favorite group of all time was KISS. Some of the first 45's I ever bought were: "Betty Davis' Eyes" by Kim Carnes; "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen; some mix by Stars On 45.
Slick Leo used to DJ for a club called The Famous (on the corner of Claiborne and Marigny). They would broadcast his mixes live on WAIL 105. I'd wait up all night listening to Slick Leo; put the tape recorder as close to the speaker as possible to record Slick. (I was too young to go to The Famous). I became a DJ because of Slick Leo. In 1989 I went to Hampton University. A New York vibe was heavily influening the East Coast then. The kids were into House Music for real. I walks up into a party at the Student Union and Black kids were goin crazy in this funky little scene - jumping jacks, turning around and around, just doin whatever the hell they felt like doin. I grew up in a place where you had to know the latest dance to feel cool. House Music freed me from this. I said to myself, "This is where I belong". This was my second Epiphany. House became my Soul.
I left Hampton in 1991. While working at Tower Records I met DJ Eloquence. We liked some of the same styles, especially Tribe, and became friends. We formed a lil crew called Mindset Productions (along with Mark Dred and Mars). Eloquence showed me the Turntables; the science and art of DJ'ing. We were lovin that good Hip Hop of the early 90's (Wu, Snoop, House of Pain, Digable, Pharcyde, Das, Nas, Naughty, etc.) I am forever grateful to Eloquence.
On Conti in the Quarter there was House of Desire. However, it was at SNAP! (Cafe Istanbul on Frenchman) I found the meaning of life - and our teacher was Trent DeLaune. Trent could throw down some House Music yo. One of the Smoothest DJ's I've ever heard. I had the honor of DJ'ing alongside Trent for about a year at The Audubon Hotel on St. Charles.

Every part of your life has a beat, and you're often tapping your fingers or toes. You enjoy sounds of all types, but you also find sound can distract you at the wrong time.
