About me: To be sexy is to be Free;
And you can't take your eyes off of me............
You can't find her in magazines, pin-ups, or porn films.
She's in line at the grocery store, waiting at the bus stop, on her walk to work. It's her Smile, her Smell, or the way she applies her lip gloss that makes you think she's sexy and beautiful.
So is Refa's perspective on the women he photographs. The goal of this Oakland artist is to capture the natural sexiness of the everyday woman of color.
Refa's work rejects the attempts of the mainstream media and cinema to define and objectify the nude female body. Rather, his unconventional approach allows subjects to have fun and to express their truest selves. "I like women free," says Refa. His work reflects his own standard of beauty through the photographing of women as if they were posing for a moment only seen by their lovers; he calls these "stolen moments". His perspective, then, is focused not so much on arousal, as on the individuality of each subject's beauty and sensuality.
Who I'd like to meet: People Interested in the Art work and models Interested in having work done.
